This is NOT MY DOG so please do not tell me to have him neutered. I am sitting for him this weekend and I am afraid that this 185# raging hormone (Fila) will make me nuts by Sunday or at the least drag me out into oncomming traffic.
I have the seeking suspision that there is a female in heat coming into the yard at night... there are three distinctive spots in the yard where he will drag me to. He will sit at the door for hours whining to get out. When I take him out (on the leash--the fence was taken out in a strom last week and wont be fixed until next week) he drags me to these spots, marks and drags me to the next one. I am not his owner and if anyone out there is even slightly aware of the Fila breed you know what I am up against.
Is there anything I can spray on the yard?? I was told to put vicks on his nose but I'm having issues with that.
There are a couple of you guys out there that I really hope will give me some good advice. Thanks

I take him out with a six foot leash on a pinch collar with nylon back up. He is usually VERY well behaved for me, I am worried because he does have the true Fila temperment and I have only known him for about three months. He will respond when I yell/scream at him in german but I am worried that it will only get worse in the next few days.

You can safely give him chamomile tea, to calm him down..Just dump it out of the bag, and mix it in a little canned food, or canned meat..the entire bag contents..
When you put on the leash, hold it short..Don't let him have enough leash to give him the momentum to drag you..
Yeah, a tiny smear of Vicks won't hurt him, but go easy on it..just a bare dab..put it on his upper lip, not the nose leather..

If there is a female in heat, you are going to be hard pressed to find something to beat that odor, but...maybe take some pieces of chicken, steak, or hot dog out with you. Hold it right at his nose as you are walking out the door, letting him just get little nibbles of it. Hopefully he will be so enthralled he will forget about those spots.

You can try spraying citronella oil or lavendar room spray around the spots he keeps dragging you to (use LOTS of it, since the wind will carry some of it away).

Depending on how much you want to invest in this, you can get an Easy Walk or Gentle Leader harness, which will give you some additional control when he pulls.

Aren't they a pain?

Unfortunately, there's not really much you can do. Especially if he's fairly young, the hormones just cancel out the brain.

The Vicks is an old dog show trick, for when we have to show young males and there are females in season at the show. I've never tried it, though.

to start up purchase some abdomen bands and lead them to placed on them till you have this problem below administration. Then thoroughly sparkling each and every spot they have peed on with an smell neutralizer. And confident canines that have been fastened will proceed to mark if there are nevertheless unneutered men in the residing house. once you're around attempt to capture them in the act and maximum appropriate them as quickly as you spot them marking and take them outdoors or crate them each and every time. they're going to often get the photograph incredibly speedy and hopefully stop if corrected each and every time.

try washing the certain areas that he marks. Unfortunately, since he is intact, he will do that unless you know how to control him on the leash. Try walking him somewhere else, although, if he pulls you, then it really doesnt matter where you walk him. He is going to go where he wants anyway. Try some leash obedience, at least that way, you can direct him to other spots.

Did they leave you with his vet information. Contact the vet to see if you can get him a mild sedative to calm him down.
