My puppy was diagnosed with ear mites and while we are giving him his drops he is still scratching his ears like crazy, so much so that he is starting to lose the hair on the crown of his little head. Will this grow back after the mites are cured or will he be stuck with premature bald patches? It's just that the area looks so smooth and pink, like no hair could ever grow again! Poor thing.

Give the treatment drops time to start to work. Follow the vets directions on keeping the ears clean. The hair will grow back when the problem begins to go away.

Most likely the hair will grow back. Have the vet check to see if the pup has excess hair growing in his ears. My 15 week old Bichonpoo had itchy smelly ears (no mites) and it turned out she had a lot of excess hair growing in her ears. The vet plucked it out and it relieved the problem. The vet said if I or the groomer continue to pluck it out she shouldn't have any more problems.

The hair should grow back. You might buy one of the "collars" that look like they have a bucket or a inverted cone on their head to keep him from being able to scratch his ears that way the medicine can take effect and he isn't aggravating the issue with all the scratching. Your vet might be able to loan you one of these kind of collars if not pet stores sell them

You will have to buy him a tiny little doggie wig to help with his self-esteem. If that doggie still has the mites you should put olive oil in his ears.

Depending on how deep it is he may be scarred, but most likely it will grow back.
