It seems it all stems back to religion. There will always be war and bloodshed until all organized religion is extinct.

The Salem Witch Trials were started by some bored young girls. The crusades were wrong, everyone agrees. Don't judge TODAY's Christians, by the deeds done centuries ago. I'm sure the Muslims may feel the same way 500 years from now. Who knows? They may be strong and not so apt to shoot anybody who doesn't agree. Let the past die. We should remember it, but not judge everyone by their ancestors.

The real problem with religious people having power is that they can use their religious authority (God, the Bible, the Koran, or what have you) as an authority above all governments and over really anyone who disagrees with them or questions them. When that happens, look out, you're in real big trouble. They will then use that power to do all sorts of hideous criminal things and can easily escape responsibilty by claiming it was "god's will" or some other such nonsense.

Jesus said He was no part of the World and asked his Father to protect his followers. Christianity in the first century and politics did not mix, which was why they were so persecuted back then by the Romans and the Jews.
When religious men get power, they usually get corrupted, which is why there are so many problems and usually intolerance of other religions develops.

Not all religious people are fanatics. I don't want to be governed by a religiously based government for sure but I can't blame all religious people for the acts of a few.

You need have no concern for any "takeover" of the world by those of The True Christian Faith. any "Theocracy" put in place by man invented manuvering is doomed to fail... The Founding Fathers of the USA saw in the teaching of The Christian Faith enough that was good to include the principles into our constitution and early laws. But this was not to instal the founding of a "theocracy" nor to give "control" to any man invented"religion"... The imposition of any force to compel the obediance to The Teaching of Jesus The Christ will be caused to fail by God Himself... no one may be compeled to become a Christian by any means by any man. That is absolutly against God's Will.... if you look at history you will see that every time it has been tried "in the name of god" to impose so-called Christianity upon any nation or group...it has failed... and those who tried were defeated and left suffering sooner-or-latter...

I think there's a difference between religious people and religious lunatics. You shouldn't be afraid of religious people. We can all disagree on religion. But the lunatics are the ones who destroy and do it in the name of religion. That's the difference.

You're talking about fanatics who do nasty deeds and then claim it was because of their belief. I can kill a neighbor and claim he was Satan and God told me to -- does that make me a religious person, or a nut?
Fanatics/nuts who act in the name of some religion are not the same as religous people.

Jesus said "a new commandment I give you, that you love one another as I have loved you. By this will men know you are my disciples".
A true Christian will follow this commandment.
