Immigration and illegal immigration are separate issues. I am fine with immigration that is what made our country to start with.
but if we allow people to illegally come in and continue arresting legal citizens for trafiic tickets and other minor things how is that fair when a person who has no legal right to be here gets by. If they were all legal they wopuld be paying more taxes.

To be clear, it is illegal immigration that most people have a problem with, not legal immigration. There are several reasons to care about illegal immigration.
first, it is a national security risk to have people coming into our country that aren't registered or screened in any way. That is a huge concern. I don't know how anyone could possibly not be concerned from a national security prespective. No nation can survive if it can't protect it's borders.
Another reason that people care is that they feel illegal immigrants are taking jobs, that should go to americans. Some say they are mostly jobs that americans don't want to do.
There are very real costs to illegal immigration. There are costs to our health care system, our schools, our law enforcement and on and on.
It is an important issue that every citizen should care about. How to solve it is a point we can disagree on, but not caring, is unacceptable.

Let them come? Haha LOL. This joke made my day! Hun, we cant just let everyone live in one country. That will cause all kinds of stuff:
- Congestion
- People skipping paying tax
- Jobs taken
- Spaces at schools taken
- and so on
I do care about it because i want to be able to find a house and some space to breath when im older. Illegal immigration is, that means you are paying for those people's healthcare, paying for their schools, paying for the roads they use to get to work. Would you like that? Do you want to pay for others? I dont. You dont see the problem in this but many do. Immigration will cause a lot of problems and i guess you should see for yourself.

Illegal immigration is a problem that is huge. It is not a distraction from the war in Iraq but if it is not fixed it may allow that war to come here. The people fighting us there have already sent people here from the south and they will continue to if the border is not secured. If you do not believe what I tell you look at the research that the Homeland Security people did on the problem at the Mexican border. Hezbollah is sending us there best. Oh by the way they want to move into your house.

Poor people don't make enough money to pay taxes enough to cover education of their children much less cover other services we provide our poor. That is why thier own countries don't provide these things to illegals. That is why they want to come here. However, stretching funds to educate our children over 12 to 20 million illegals has already ruined public education in the areas where they most concentrate, and is ruining public education in other areas. Health care is similar.
There are reasons why we have limits on immigration of poor people. We want our own people, poor or not, to have certain things and are willing to pay for it. But if illegals they break the law to put their kids' education above ours, when we are the ones paying for it, and our children's education becomes substandard, we parents get very pissed.

Where in the US do you live that this issue doesn't affect you ?I live in AZ and it has cost my city and state millions of dollars. The cost of illegal aliens is astronomical.I care because of the total disregard for laws of this nation, the disrespect of this country's flag and the demand for rights they are not entitled to.
Millions of Americans ask WHY as they see their towns, cities and schools flooded with non-English speaking illegal aliens. What and why is it happening? Zogby, Pew, Roper and Dobbs polls show that a stunning 80 to 95 percent of Americans demand our borders be closed. They want legal immigration reduced back to the pre-1965 levels so immigrants will assimilate instead of what's happening: enclaving and separating. Something must be done to end this ,and ASAP.The time to start was yesterday.

immigration could be solved easily if the Dem's and Rep's just compromise. seems like common sense to me.
1. secure the border with the national guard
2. tamper proof id's for the ones that are already here.
3. set guidelines for those who deserve amnesty. those that have been here for say more than 10 years should get the chance for citizenship but must pay some back taxes. more than 5 years either guest worker program or pathway to citizenship to be determined case by case.
4. hold businesses that hire illegals accountable.
5. make the guest worker program easily accessible with a reasonable wait list like 3-6 months for background checks.
6. hold the Mexican govt accountable for not providing for it's citizens.
7. for god's sake, have a heart! all they want to do is provide for their family. you would do the exact same thing if you were in that position. i know we have to keep America safe. we have the ability to have excellent security (Vegas for example) but our govt is to busy pandering to their bases.

have you been living under a rock? the illegal aliens are having a negative impact on America & Americans....besides the fact they are uncivilized, uneducated and criminals their freeloading is bankrupting our health care system, social services for seniors & veterans are being cut so pay for services for illegals, the quality of our school systems are rapidly declining...some systems are spending upto 67% of their funds on ESL classes, illegals in our prisons are up over 60%...and on & on & on... please do some reasearch then write to your elected officials....it is your duty if you are American!
Evelyn R - you are misinformed or an idiot- homeland security has not made a dent...ask my sister...the stories are scary the decisions our govt. made are NOT in the best interest of Americans...they tell one story then tie the hands of the enforcement agents...

To paraphrase what The Only Beldin said:
Illegal aliens, simply by entering an emergency room, can be treated regardless of ability to pay. This is a good thing in that in an emergency, the value of one's life is superior to ability to pay.
HOWEVER there is a cost to all goods and services, and when illegal aliens soak up around 26 billion dollars in health care, services which are NOT paid, who do you think gets to pay THAT bill?
YOU and ME and the rest of America.
This is just a tip of the iceberg. Illegal aliens comprise a big piece of prisoners in federal prisons. They must be cared for as well.
_____________
To EVELYN R:
I did my homework. YOU are the one who didn't:
* "At the federal level, the number of criminal aliens incarcerated increased from about 42,000 at the end of calendar year 2001 to about 49,000 at the end of calendar year 2004—a 15 percent increase. The percentage of all federal prisoners who are criminal aliens has remained the same over the last 3 years—about 27 percent. The majority of criminal aliens incarcerated at the end of calendar year 2004 were identified as citizens of Mexico. We estimate the federal cost of incarcerating criminal aliens— BOP’s cost to incarcerate criminals and reimbursements to state and local governments under SCAAP—totaled approximately $5.8 billion for calendar years 2001 through 2004. BOP’s cost to incarcerate criminal aliens rose from about $950 million in 2001 to about $1.2 billion in 2004—a 14 percent increase."
