Ok this recipe is ol' time. it was a favorite dish in my Grandmother's day, so it doenst have exact amounts for ingrediants. Just go by the amount of beans you have. So simple but flavorfull.
All you need for it is your cans of string bean (the wholes ones) with the juice, whole peeled potatos, jo-bacon (lot of ppl dont know what that is and sometimes is hard to find, so about a pound of regular bacon will work as well) pearl onions or regular white onions quartered, and salt and pepper to taste.
Just put all the ingrediants into a pot, add a little extra water. And allow to cook until the potatos are tender.
Corn fritters make a great side/bread.

1= pour water off the string beans
2= mix French cut and regular beans in a pot
3= cover beans with fresh tap water
4= add a teaspoon of sugar
5=add a tablespoon of cooking oil
6= put an onion in pot with beans
7=add meat ( smoke turkey necks or other boiling meat ).
8 =Season with salt or other season
9= cook until tender.
When the beans are getting tender, take the onion out.Taste your beans and the liquor from the beans to assure you have enough season, if it is too salty, put a whole white potato in them. Add more water if necessary.

Crockpot Green Beans
2 cans green beans, drained
4 potatoes, scrubbed and diced
2tbsp. bacon drippings OR 4 slices bacon OR 1-2 slices salty ham
Place green beans and potatoes in slowcooker. Just cover with water. Top with drippings, bacon or ham. Cook on low 6-8 hours until potatoes are tender.
Add a can of green beans, corn, peas, dice a couple of potatoes and an onion, (and any other veggies you like) and add to a can of tomato juice and a tomato-juice can of water and simmer for a delicious soup.

The classic green bean casserole is a favorite of mine
1 can of cream of mushroom soup per can of beans
sprinkle french fried onions over the top and bake until heated through
I love green beans in the crock (you can use the stovetop also)
Throw them in with some pieces of bacon or salt pork ( this gives them a wonderful flavor) a little sliced onion.

You could always make a basic bean casserole. 2 cans of string beans, 1 can of cream of mushroom soup and top with french's fried onions. Pop it in the oven and bake it for about 20 minutes or until it's hot and bubbly.

Cook two strips of bacon in a saucepan until crisp. Drain them on paper toweling and crumble, set aside. Throw out all but a Tablespoon of the bacon grease, add a cap full of vinegar and the beans (one can ) back into the pan and heat through. Add crumbled bacon and serve.

All fruits are fresh vegetables. A "vegetable" is a plant, any part of which can be used for food.
