My husband saw a what looks like a layer cake made of twinkies in the newspaper but threw it away. Does anyone know any recipe like this. I know it had some kind of cream filling in between the layers of twinkies. I looked on the Hostess site and it had a pumkin layer Twinkie cake but that is not it. Any ideas?

Or just a recipe for a good cream filling that could be used?

Episode: Childhood Food Grows Up

1 box yellow cake mix
5 tablespoon all-purpose flour
1 cup milk
1 cup sugar
1/2 teaspoon salt
1/2 cup shortening
1/2 cup butter, softened
1 teaspoon vanilla extract
Powdered sugar and mint, for garnish

Mix and bake the cake as directed, using a 9 by 13-inch pan. Cool and turn out from pan.

Using dental floss, slice cake in 2 lengthwise, so you have 2 layers.

In saucepan, combine the flour and milk. Cook and stir until thick. Set aside to cool.

In bowl combine sugar, salt, shortening, softened butter and vanilla. Beat with electric mixer until fluffy, then add the cooled milk mixture and beat until fluffy.

Put half the cake in a 9 by 13-inch plastic keeper. Spread all of filling over that, then top with the other half of the cake. Cover with lid and store 1 or 2 days ahead. Garnish with powdered sugar and mint before serving.

Enjoy!

Twinkie Quickie
1 box Twinkies
1 large box instant banana cream pudding
2-3 ripe bananas

chopped nuts or crushed candy topping of your choice

Cut Twinkies in half the long way and place cut side down, filling bottom of a 9x13" pan. Make the pudding according to directions on the package and pour evenly over Twinkies. Slice bananas and place over the pudding. Cover all with cool whip. Top with your choice of toppings and refrigerate at least one hour before serving.
