Anti depressants are also used for pain...Cymbalta is a new medication made to treat depression and the physical pain it causes. Try it, it may work for you, my doctor put me on it about a year ago. I take narcotics daily for pain and they weren't working as well. He added the Cymbalta instead of increasing the narcotics at my request and it has helped alot. It takes about 2 to 4 weeks before you get the full effect of the medication so be patient.

From what I know about Cymbalta it also can assist with pain, and is much safer than some pain medications. I know many end up becoming dependent on so many pain medications. Cymbalta , a SSNRI (selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor) being a type of anit depressant seems to be somewhat safer in that respect. Doctors are prescribing medications more and more that are not for the initial use of the drug.

Starla and Sophi are correct-antidepressants aid painkillers in relieving chronic pain. It is not that the doctor doesn't know what is causing the pain or is considering you a hypochondriac. There is a scientific basis for the combination but it is too lengthy and detailed to discuss here. Look it up.

They don't understand your pain so they are giving you this as a way of dulling your pain. They probably think it's all in your head. I suffer from a displaced tailbone and my doctor treats me the same way. Try this site it might help if you read what others have to say and it may give you more insight on your hip pain. Did you ever fall on your tailbone?

Sounds a bit like there is no diagnosis of the condition causing the pain.. Perhaps it may be advisable to find out what is the causation and have it taken care of. Are you being considered to be a hypochondriac?
