I have a question, I read in my bible the other day that there is only one sin that GOD cannot forgive, it's sinning against the holy ghost. I'm kind of new at this stuff, so what exactly does this mean?

A sin. is simply anything that cuts you off, or gets in the way of your soul have relationship with the spirit of God. the holy ghost. blasphemy is cutting yourself off from the spirit, Not allowing the spirit to guide you and comfort you.Jesus said he would leave us the holy ghost. that is basically all we have here to guide us. once we cut ourselves off from it. then this of course makes it so our spiritual progresses is ended. there is no more progress of our soul. then a person is open to the influence of the prince of the power of the air,The Devil. you must open yourself to the spirit of God, ask and the door will be opened unto you. ask of it anything you wish and it will respond with the correct answer, you must learn to listen inside your self for the answers. There is a very quiet voice.that will advise you. then do what the spirit says to do, then you will be doing Gods will. all that call on the name of the lord will not be saved only those that do My fathers will, will go to heaven.said Jesus. You must have the love and trust and faith a child has towards our father in heaven.I wish you the very best on you spiritual journey.

The Unforgiveable Sin is grieving the Holy Spirit. That means when God is pleading with you through the Holy Spirit and you keep ignoring Him, eventually you will fail to hear Him anymore, and you will be lost, but not because of anything HE did. It's like setting an alarm clock for a deaf person. God is willing to forgive ANY sin as long as you keep the channels of communication open!

It's blasphemy against the Holy Ghost that is the sin which God will not forgive either in this life or in the life to come.

Jesus said this in response to the Pharisees who saw the miracles he did. The Pharisees were the leaders of the synagogue who were the teachers of the Law and the holy scriptures at that time. Therefore, they knew that Jesus taught according to the Law and the prophets, and there was enough precedence in the scriptures of prophets having done miracles for them to know that Jesus was doing miracles by the Holy Spirit.

Yet the Pharisees, seeking to discredit Jesus, said that He was doing miracles by a demon spirit. They knew He was doing miracles by the Holy Spirit yet they chose to lie - or blaspheme - and call it a demon spirit.

Therefore, by this context we can know that what is meant by this is that a person who knows that a work is being done by the Holy Spirit because of precedence already set forth in scripture yet chooses to tell a lie and say that the works are of a demon spirit that person is putting himself or herself in a very dangerous place where all eternal hope of forgiveness is forever lost.

the sin against the holy Ghost/Spirit is when you believe that ur sins are too great for God to forgive. Its called unforgivable becuase ur sins can not be forgiven while you think that. But if you have Faith in God that He will forgive all your sins no matter how great the sin, then you can be forgiven again.

ps: i was worried about this a few years ago so i had my mom, then a priest explain it to me, i heard it is a common fear to many that they may have committed the sin against the Holy Ghost unkwowingly, but it is actually as i have stated above. ask a priest or look in the catechism if ur still confussed :)

ps2: wow people really are confussed, read my post guys! its not all that satan stuff really ^^;; a priest explanned it to me

ps3: eefen has got it right too

Blasphemy against the Spirit
- Therefore, I say to you, every sin and blasphemy will be forgiven people, but blasphemy against the Spirit will not be forgiven (Matthew 12:31)

Is the sin of attributing to Satan
- But when the Pharisees heard this, they said, "This man drives out demons only by the power of Beelzebul, the prince of demons." (Matthew 12:24)

What is the work of the Spirit of God
- But if it is by the Spirit of God that I drive out demons, then the kingdom of God has come upon you. (Matthew 12:28)

We really do not know why Jesus said this sin is unforgivable.

Sorry, I don't know much about Buddhism.

With love in Christ.

As Scripture also says that God does not take delight in the destruction of anybody and also a contrite heart he will not spurn, I believe the only sin not forgiven is the sin not asked forgiveness for. In other words , a sin that a person feels is greater than the Mercy of God. In effect you are saying that your sin is greater than God. Big Mistake. This is why suicide is such a bad sin , outside of mental illness.

This refers to opposing the operation of God's power or holy spirit willfully and deliberately. The Pharisees were guilty of sinning against God's spirit for they clearly saw the miracles and work that his Son, Jesus did, yet they said his Son's power came from Satan the devil and not from God. In doing this, they became guilty of blasphemy against God's power and that was unforgiveable.
So anyone who denies or opposes the operation of God's spirit is sinning against it, which is unforgiveable.

God cannot forgive it if we are to proud to ask for forgiveness, or if we believe God can't forgive us because our sin is to great. The first is presumption, the second is despair. God does not forgive unless we ask for His forgiveness. So these sins are "unforgivable" against the Holy Spirit because we don't ask for forgiveness.

It basically means this: If you are dead set against Christianity, God, ect., and refuse to change your views even till you die, that is blasphemy against the Holy Spirit. It is denying Him. One who is a Christian, or is seeking forgiveness for supposedly committing this sin has not really committed it. God bless!

Jesus just rebuked the pharisees when he said these words: 'sins against the Father & the Son shall be foregiven, but anyone who sins against the holy spirit will not be foregiven--no not in this world, nor in the world to come'.

The holy spirt is God's active force ( or power) that was given to Jesus. W/ that power Jesus was able to perform miracles, which though seen by those religious leaders were rejected by them.

So, in that context, sin against the holy spirit is rejecting its manifestations in the miracles performed by Jesus.

So, if those religious leaders rejected God's power, what else would God offer them? Nothing.
