My friend just got her hair bleached today. Her hair is naturally brown, and it had been colored with reddish highlights two months ago.

She and is very very unhappy with the the bleach job, and wants to dye it back to brown right away. What is the safest off the shelf product we can use help return her hair to a more natural brown color?

Thanks for any help you can give!

She should definitely WAIT at least two weeks. Doing two chemical treatments back to back can damage the hair tremendously! Try an ammonia free dye so the chemical process will be less harsh. And consult a professional before doing this. Good Luck!

I had the same problem a few months ago. I just went to a store and bought a Semi - Permanent dye that are not as damaging as permanent dyes. But I did wait some days... If she's too anxious I guess the least she could wait would be 2 days if she doesn't mind having her hair really dry but with her hair color.

Make sure she tries the color on a not noticiable part of her hair making a tiny little stripe.

It worked great for me. It covered the bleach perfectly but it started to rinse about 2-3 weeks later so I had to do it again. And now it's been a month and the highlights are not showing. The color is definetely lighter, but you can't even tell it was highlighted, let alone, dyed over it. I'm very happy with the results.

Anyway the MOST reccomendable way would be getting it fixed by a professional and to wait a few weeks. But she has other options too.

The more treatments you use on your hair the more you damage it - she would be best to avoid any other process for at least a week. In the meantime she could use a veggie based dye as these do not harm the hair and actually condition it - they last 3-6 weeks approx which would give her hair enough time to recover a bit before dyeing with her brown colour again.

You should go to a reputable salon and get your hair "filled". That'll make it all one color again, and we hurt the integrity of your hair. It'll only last about six weeks, but you can have it done again until you're content with the color.

you are able to dye it dark brown yet you're able to pre pigmentate it first to place the copper, bronze and purple tones in first. in case you do no longer try this it is going to pass green. It terrific to have this executed professionally for the terrific effects.
