We are taking our St. Bernard for an ultra sound today because she is pregnant. We believe she's around 3 weeks yesterday, so does anyone know what we should expect to see? I know its early, but we want to make sure that there are no complications, and the vet recommended to bring her in on the 3rd week, 6th week, and ninth week. Has anyone ever took their pregnant dog for an ultra sound before? Can you see the pups, or just blobs? I am so excited if you can't already tell, this is her first time!

We have had her and the fathers hips tested, and they are up to date on shots and vet visits, so please no negative comments, we ARE going to breed regularly now, and there is nothing anyone could say to stop us.

I just can't understand why there are so many bitter people that make rude comments. I just want to get answers on an ultrasound of a dog, not a guilt trip about how many dogs are in this world, or whatever. Come on and just answer my question if you have a positive answer, and if you don't just leave me alone, I didn't ask for your opinion, just an answer to my question for Goodness Sakes!

I breed Saint Bernards too. They are not a common breed and if done properly and for the right reason I say go for it. I hope you have good stock. The ultra sound at this point may show heart beats and a rounded figure. It wont be a good sourse of number. Pups are tricky and can hide. Mostly it will just rule out some complications but not all. Good luck and please be responsible. email me and I will help in any way I can.

Did you have the elbows tested too?????? Were hips and elbows done on BOTH dogs????? The breed had QUITE a problem with both. Don't bring unhealthy puppies into the world!

I have taken MANY dogs for ultrasound. At this point they really are SMALL blobs. Three weeks is a little early. Sometimes if you are off by a few days, it is hard to see anything and then you are thinking there is not a pregnancy and you feel disappointed.

Oh yeah...you are the BYB that has been asking questions for a while! Guess you still haven't done ANY of your own research.
Too bad you didn't pick a healthier breed to BYB with.

Because God knows we need more dogs in the world. After all, there are only over 500 St. Bernards already looking for homes on PetFinder.com alone! Let's continue to add to the problem of dog overpopulation! It's so much fun!

At 3 weeks gestation, you won't be able to tell what the tiny fetuses are..but at the 6th week, you can see them pretty well...
