Thats a good question. i'm not quite sure but i'm guessing incase it's imported to another country where the speed limit is different, obviously nowhere you'll be able to drive at those speeds on normal roads. Maybe send an e-mail to top gear or a car manufacturer, i would be interested to know this answer too.

Read yer U.K highway code. On Dual Carriageways the speed limit is 70 mph same as on a motorway. On a single carriageway like a country lane the speed limit is 60 mph if its signed as national speed limit. Remember its a LIMIT not a Target. Drive Safe

no what i think is even more annoying is when said driver does 40mph in a 60 limit but then continues doin 40mph in a 30 limit...i just imagine they are thinking 40 is my speed no matter what the road limit......or when your going from single lane to dual back to single and everyone stays in the single lane formation so that traffic backs up all the way , then they toot and try and block you when you go in the outer lane of the dual carriage...there i had my rant!

If by trunk road you mean Dual Carriageway - then the speed limit is 70mph for cars and motorcycles.

Speed limits may not be totally compulsary, but let's face it, why drive at half the limit when your vehicle is capable of driving at the full 60, and the conditions allow you to do so safely?

It is called a SPEED LIMIT. It is NOT compulsory for you to drive at 60mph!
I'm a courier, I drive at 60mph on motorways on the way back home to conserve fuel, for which I am paying out for.
Yes it's frustrating, but not everybody is as superb at driving as you so eminently are.

Plenty of speedometers are up to 10 mph slow a 60 and lots of older drivers could get a disabled bage because they are technically blind
