its a phone that has a cord directly hooked up to the telephone poll rather than wireless so you can walk all around. the advantage of having one is that the power comes directly from the phone line and therefore when your power goes out youc an often still call people. payphones are land lines .

A land line would refer to a phone connection that is not wireless (cellular) Yes a payphone would be considered a landline, or a home phone, or a business phone that is not cellular service.

It is any phone that is connected to a physical line--- it is just another way of referring to most home phones, pay-phones, or business phones. people started using this term to distinguish between a mobile phone which is not connected to a physical line.

Mobile is just that, not hardwired.
