Hi
Moron which is what you were called was originally a scientific term, coined by psychologist Henry Goddard from a Greek word meaning "foolish" and was used in psychology to describe a person with a mental age of between 8 and 12 on the Binet scale (if you are 12 then this is not too bad).. It was also once applied to people with an IQ of 51-70 and was a step up from "imbecile" (IQ of 26-50) and two steps up from "idiot" (IQ of 0-25). Mensa state that the average IQ is 100.
So really its up to you to decide.

Depends if it offends your own belief system. Personally, the few Mormons I've ever met are very polite folk..............however, the same can not be said for morons, and it that was what you were called, then,no, not very polite.

Being called a Mormon is an honor because of the integrity they emulate. Now FatBob isn't a bad name either. If Harley-Davidson can name a model after you, it can't be all that bad.
Incidentally, the meaning to Mormon is "More Good." The meaning for moron is, well . . . gosh. I don't want to say it.

As a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, I don't think being called "Mormon" is such a bad thing. Nevertheless, you apparently don't think it's appropriate, and it was more likely than not used in a negative way. I'm sorry your feelings were hurt, and I'm sorry that a nickname for people of my religion was used in a negative way.

It could have been a praise though; mormons haven't exactly had the kind of reputation that kept people away for their bad manners. I'd like to be called Mormon!

The person probably meant to call you a moron. That is not polite. But if he/she really means Mormon it's presumably because your last question possibly indicated it. Otherwise the person is showing ignorance. I wouldn't lose any sleep over it. We've all been called worse names.

I guess it was impolite if you consider being called a mormon a putdown. However most of the people I have met from that particular religion are very kind people so I would consider it a compliment.

I don't know. If it is not true and the context suggests a slam, then this is not polite.

If they said it instead of moron in order to prevent a violation order by Yahoo, then no it wasn't. If they were suggesting you were a Mormon (as per religion) then it was perfectly acceptable.
Keep things in context!
