THE DISCIPLINE OF THE JAPANESE ESPECIALLY TOWARDS WORK

AND THEIR SCIENCE AND TECHNOLOGY

Japan is a leading nation in the fields of scientific research and production of high technology products. Some of its more important industrial contributions include chemicals, metals, semiconductors, robotics, machinery, industrial robotics and optics. Japan leads the world in robotics, having produced QRIO, ASIMO, and Aibo, and possesses more than half (402,200 of 742,500) of the world's industrial robots used for manufacturing.[8] It is also one of the leading nations in health care and medical research.

Japan is also making headway into aerospace research and space exploration. It founded the Japan Aerospace Exploration Agency (JAXA) in October 1, 2003 and is involved in many missions and projects, as well as a possible independent manned mission to the moon[citation needed], having, from 2005, shifted some of its focus away from international efforts. It is also a major contributor to the International Space Station project, the most significant contribution being the Japanese Experiment Module that will complete installation in 2007.

Texas Trey is incorrect. Not only does Japan have a military, (called a self defense force) they spend a TON of money on it. Look on the internet in national military spending and you will see that Japan is in the top 3 of spenders for countries.
Now specifically, Japan has what I would call a small but HIGHLY sophisticated military. Their technology is top knotch. As far as troop strength goes it isn't all that high but their weapons systems are very good. In terms of their technology they have many of the same systems the US has (in fact we sell them quite a bit of hardware).
So I would say you could call Japan a pretty strong military technology wise, but troop strength wise they are rather low on the totem pole.

Since WWII, Japan has constitutionally been allowed to, and does, maintain a force large enough to defend themselves in the event of attack. They have Sea, Air and Ground Self Defense Forces. As far as numbers, there are 295,645 total service members.

While stationed in Okinawa, Japan in the Marine Corps, we trained on Japanese bases throughout the country and interacted closely with their troops, at times conducting joint training operations.
