May I be the first to congratulate you for your kindness and compassion for your fellow countrymen. They will be absolutly rapt to be in such a place and receive welcome news from home. Are you visiting someone you know? If so, talk to there family first and try and take as much correspondence as you can. Don't forget, it's a good chance they might not have spoken to any body in english except themselves or other inmates. Here is a web site that can offer you any help and advice as this is what they do. Cheers Buddy, you have a big heart.

If you want to represent your country, you should seek assistance and agreement from your government before doing so in Thailand. If you are going in your personal capacity, then you will need a reason for visiting. Just because you want to do something does not mean that state authorities will just open up for you.
Be realistic, Thailand is a sovereign country and their laws apply while in Thailand. Same as any laws that is applicable in your country.

You can go to Bang Kwang Prison, located just outside Bangkok, to visit Irish (or any other nationality's) Prisioners. You can leave money for them in their personal prisoner bank account.
