I know that corn used to produce ethenol uses copious amounts of this substance. Is it drilled for like oil?

Some from recycling things like sewage sludge. Mostly from the air. It's called the Haber process, named after the guy who invented it. He won the Nobel Prize for that. More info:

Nitrogen compounds of which is very popular is NO2 .it is farmed in the engine combustion chamber,when it gets very hot that is when u form NO2. Of course it is made in nature every time it lightnings it is so hot it forms NO2.
There are some wells in north new Mexico and the gas is ammonia which mixed with water forms a very good fertilizer.
