this might be a silly question, or it may be an absolutly legitament question.....but last night i wasn't feeling very well so i decided to take a hot shower...(i am 35 weeks pregnant btw)...i got into the shower and turned the water on as hot as i could stand it. it felt so good and relaxing, i sat down in the tub and let the hot water run over me (i almost fell asleep it was so relaxing). but all of a sudden i remembered that pregnant women aren't supposed to take very hot baths or go to a sauna or things like that (and the water was coming down right on top of my stomach). so i jumped up and got out of the shower. i am just a little paranoid that i may have caused brain damage or something to my unborn son....could that have happened??? should i mention it to my doctor at my next appointment (next week)? i seem fine and the baby is moving around today (although, not as much a usual...). Am i just a paranoid mom? any help or advice will be greatly appreciated. thanks!

From what I understand as long as your body temperature doesn't rise above 102 degrees you'll be fine. Most women get out of the tub/shower/hot tub/sauna before their body temperatures even reach 100 degrees because they start feeling sick. Not that I'd tell any pregnant women to go run off and hop into a hot tub or sauna. I'm sure your baby is fine and if it's still bothering you call your doctor and tell them. They'll most likely reassure you that everything is fine.

Everything that I've read says that women should avoid saunas, hot baths, hot tubs, etc. because of the risk of them overheating. If the woman overheats, the baby overheats. If you weren't overheated in the shower, you probably were fine. If your baby is moving around today I would see no reason to panic, but just to make yourself know for sure, call your doctor and ask for an u/s or, at the very least, an appointment to do a quick "check up" on things.

Also, if you're worried or upset about the potential to hurt your baby, there's always the chance that the baby sense that something is not right with you and can change his/her movements. Try kicking back and relaxing and seeing if that makes him/her move around like what he/she normally does.

Generally the recommendation is not to use a hot tub when pregnant or take a very hot bath. The greatest risk with high heat to the developing baby is mostly in the first trimester. A hot shower should not pose any type of risk. Slipping in the shower and hurting yourself is about the worst thing that may happen while taking a hot shower. Mention it to your doctor at your next appointment, but I think he/she will say you and your baby are fine.

I honestly dont think you have done any harm whatsoever to your unborn child. I have had 4 succesful pregnancies and with each of my children i have had hot baths. As for movement your baby should be moving into the birthing position so it might not move around as much. When you think about a baby in your belly, you think that theres not much room for it lol well thats how the baby feels theres not much room to move around. If your worried then go see your doctor or midwife and have a chat with them about it. Good luck and hope all goes well xxx

The whole hot water cation thing is mainly for the first trimester. You're fine, don't worry. I asked my Dr. the same thing and he said as long as the water wasn't above 102 degrees (which I'm sure it wasn't) and you are past the first trimester, and are NOT dilated yet it's fine. You can talk to your Dr. if you are not sure, but I think you are OK.

Although that's true - about hot tubs and all - as long as the baby is moving around - you should be fine. You weren't emerced in the hot water. You can ask your doctor to put your mind at ease.

no you should be perfectly fine i would take really hot showers when i was pergnant and she was a healthy 10lbs and 6oz baby but anything that worries you ask your doctor it will make you feel better in the long run just call the office and ask the nurse if they think it is serious they will have you come in but you should be fine the baby is running out of room to move thats why he has slowed down best of luck to you and your little boy
