As a public school teacher, I would actually recommend home-schooling your children if at all possible. I send my daughter to a private Christian school. Some people think it's too expensive to send their kids to Christian school, but I tell you it doesn't cost any more than daycare. Most of you probably send your kids to daycare, don't you? Also, you can't put a price on a good Christian education. They have smaller teacher:student ratios, they focus on academics, they learn good morals, they are allowed to worship as they please (in accordance with the 1st Amendment), they score higher than the national average on tests, and they help to create productive members of society. They are not crime-and-drug ridden like so many public schools.
A public school would be the last place I'd send my child if I could help it.
If, however, I did have to send here there, I would be on those teachers, principal and school board like white on rice. I would give them notes saying that they are not to teach my children evolution or any sex education (especially presented by Planned Parenthood!) or any "diversity" training (which is really just pro-gay propaganda). I will NOT have my child brainwashed by the public school system. You should be aware that the creation of a free, public school system was one of the tenets of Karl Marx's Humanist Manifesto, which was implemented by Teddy Roosevelt in this country. In fact, most of the tenets of that Manifesto were accomplished in this country in the first half of the 20th century. We have slowly become a socialist nation.
Before that time, children were either home-schooled or private-schooled - and some of the best, most intelligent people our country has ever produced were educated thusly.

Public school. They need to know how to deal with other people, and particularly with poeple who don't share their beliefs. Kids need to be able to handle the world outside, and public school is a great place for that. Unless you are a bigot (not saying you are), it's good to have the kids in public school to better learn about all cultures. Private school is fantastic if you can afford it, and the quality of education is much higher. Home school - I personally am against it. Kids become too insulated in the home, sheltered. The plus side, I guess, is that you alone decide what the kids learn. (Not a plus in my book, but in some.) The thing is, you have to choose based on what works for you. If you're a super-Christian, you may want to look into private Christian schools. If you have great public schools in your area, send the kids there - helps with socialization skills. Home school works only when you are really devoted to it, but there are tons of materials to help with that.

My children have gone to a Christian school through sixth grade, then on to public school. This gives them a good healthy start where they learn truths about God and respect for authority. They are in smaller classes so they are able to learn more. They are in an environment where most of the parents know each others names and feel safe letting kids have play dates at each others homes.
These kids are more sheltered in some areas, like protected from most bullying on the playground, as they are watched closer because of the smaller number of kids. They are sheltered from planned parenthood, and curriculum that teaches about different sexual lifestyles.
That doesn't mean that they don't get an "education" on the bus. It also doesn't mean that we haven't introduced some of the sexual sins at home (by talking). It just means that the kids are learning our (parents) views on things. There will be time enough for the worldly view when they are older.

Well, do you want your children to be indoctrinated with one religion at school for 7 hrs a day and then hope they learn Christianity at home for the few hours left?? Sounds like a good way to confuse them. God has been removed from the public school, children are taught things at school that are very much against Christian beliefs. They are too young to be able to discern, they are just absorbing what they're fed.
If you can find it, Classical Christian Education is what I think is best. It involves finding God in every subject. The kids tend to start learning things like Latin, Logic, and Rhetoric at very young ages. My church has such a school and I think the 6th graders are smarter than me. They are amazing! They are trained to be leaders and how to logically debate on any issue. Critical thinking is emphasized. I think it is a more complete education than any public school can offer. I'd rather my kids learn how to think critically than to be stuffed with trivia.
Home school has the limitation of you as the parent. I don't think I could do justice to it myself. It takes more effort to socialize your children. It's possible though. Social skills are just as important as book skills. Private school is a toss up. A Christian school - well, I've heard just as many bad things about them as public schools. Those are things you'd just have to investigate.

I live in CA and I don't plan on sending my children to public schools. The reality is, I don't think they would receive good educations from our public schools. I think my preference would be private followed by home school, public would be a distant last resort.

If I can afford it, private school. If not, then I will make sure my kids get a good religious upbringing at home. I have been to public schools and I would not let my children suffer like that.

Public schools now a days promote homosexuality so you tell me. Public school teachers are having sex with the kids, guns, and the whole homo thing. Public school is out! Now a christian school is a better option then the sad public school. But can be expensive. third is home school.

Why cripple them by sending them to a religious school or in the socially limiting atmosphere of home schooling.
