The issue of States' Rights, specifically the "right" of certain states to continue the practice of slavery when it was abolished nationally, started the Civil War. Hundreds of reasons are given for the actual cause, including the oversimplified issue of the South's right to seceed from the Union, but there would never have been an issue with secession if the South's slavery market had not been threatened. We're talking millions of dollars here, which is like billions today. Slavery, despite what you'll read, was the root cause.

The Iraq war was started because false intelligence was given to the United States Congress that the Iraqi government was stockpiling weapons of mass destruction. Later, when it was discovered that there were no weapons of mass destruction, President Bush changed his justification for the war to "freeing the Iraqi people"; however, the WMD threat (which was not in existence) was the original reason. It has yet to be determined whether or not the President and/or members of the CIA deliberately misled Congress into allowing the deployment of US troops in Iraq.

The roots of the American Civil War began with the American Colonists revolution against the British. The colonies wanted more control over their fates, with the rights to make their own decisions, independent of what King George wanted.

The leaders of the original 13 colonies had long discussions and disagreements over what form of independence they would choose. Possibilities ran all the way from a set of 13 independent nations, to a single nation under a strong central control. (some even suggested an American king)

An agreement was eventually hashed out, with a Federation of 13 states with a representative form of government. Not all the states were happy with the form, and the eventual result was that several of the states decided to cecede from the union and form their own nation, known as the Confederate States of Americal.

This was what the civil war was about. States rights. Among the most hotly debated of these rights was the right to allow slavery.

While the details are greatly different, the war in Iraq has its roots in the distant past, when one group wanted one form of government while another insisted on something completely different. One big difference was that a strong personality eventually came into this chaos and took over the reins of government. This provided temporary stability, (which the American government likes because it meant the continued, ininterrupted flow of cheap oil) but, this personality (Saddam) didn't care for being considered a puppet of the US. He wouldn't "do what he was told," so went from being a "friend" of the US to being an enemy that had to be taken out.

Still a matter of states rights, in this case, the state is another nation, a world away.

It's funny how our bloody civil war which killed at least 625,000 created such a great country. These other countries have been in civil wars throughout their whole existence, the point of war is to have a winner and move on with your society. Our civil war had alot with slavery but our country needed to decide between becoming a dissolvable confederation of sovereign states or a indivisible nation with a sovereign national government. Iraq was only about getting US interests and businesses involved and established in the middle-east for oil, nothing more. If the middle-east does not figure out how to be a part of allied partner to the rest of the world, especially the US, it will eventually be nuked back into the stone age.

Contrary to what is taught in our public school systems and what is now published as American History, the Civil war was not about slavery at all. The Civil war boiled down to the fact that the southern states had a constitutional right to suceed from the union which was denied unconstitutionally. When the south appeared to have one up on the north, slavery was introduced as a cause for the war to garner more interest in the fight for the north. Instigated by a northern President who owned slaves himself!

The reason for the war in Iraq remains the same now as when it started, we are seeking out the terrorists and taking the war to their front door instead of ours.

The civil war was started when the Southern States wanted to suceed from the Union due to a change. The change was that Federal government was to have control over the State Government. Up until that point the States had more power. So they went to war over it. The South Lost.
As far as the Iraq war, I don't hve a clue why we're still there.

The civil war started because the North wanted to outlaw slavery and the South felt like they still needed them because they had the huge plantations and stuff so the South wanted to succeed from the US -So the North and South fought because the North wanted us to stay one country and the South didn't... the North won - They didn't teach you that in school??

Iraq war-Bush said that after 9-11 he was going to war with Terror.. he apparently thought that Saddam had WMD- Bush gave him an ultimatum to leave his country or we were going to war - Saddam didn't leave and there we are

the civil war was about cheep labor for the industrial revolution
by destroying the south they caused millions to be homeless.
slavery was just an excuse,
