on the signs that say for example "Nuneaton 4 miles". what point in the town do they measure the mileage from?

I have always understood it to be the centre of the town....
some signs have been there a long time even though the places have grown substantially, but the distance marker never changes...

US helper here, When on the road when you pass a sign that said "Nuneaton 4 miles" that is telling you that from the sign to the border of the town, or may be first exit in that town...

I beleive it is from the city limit for towns and cities and from the state line for state miles. That's always been my understanding, my honey is a trucker.
