Yes, particularly if the disease isn't caught in it's early stages

Overall 5-year survival rates for the US (all stages of the cancer combined):-

Rectum: 59%

Right colon: 59%

Transverse colon: 59%

Rectosigmoid junction: 62%

Ascending colon: 63%

Left colon: 65%

Descending colon: 66%

not really no. As long as it is caught early colon cancer has a high rate of curing it.

i depends on what stage it is caught in. my father is a colon cancer survivor for 8 years now. he does have a colostomy and his life has changed dramatically. my father had colon cancer for 5 years before it was found, and we were told he wouldn't make it but with chemo, radiation, and surgery and lots of prayer he made it.

There are many factors that affect mortality rates for each different type of cancer: the stage, the overall general health of the person, the treatment.. etc.
I know a person who was in a pretty advaced stage and he was treated and lived.
Don't worry about mortality rates.. each person is different.

Not if it's detected early enough. It is one of the most treatable cancers if it is caught early. If not it can spread in a hurry. That is why they say get tested.
