If it persists, take your temperature. If it's high, you might have a throat infection and need antibiotics from the doctor.

However, there is a horrible sore throat virus doing the rounds which hangs about for a long time and doesn't immediately turn into a cold.

Our 20 year old brought it back from Spain with him. We all caught it and had the sore throat remained for between 4-7 days. After a week's gap, we then all developed a proper cold.

It's one of the new breed of viruses. Nobody ever gets a straightforward cold anymore.

The reason your "airhead" doctor did not give you antibiotics is that they work on specific bacterial infections, NOT viruses. The flu is a virus, so antibiotics have absolutely no effect. Also, decent, responsible doctors these days will usually only give antibiotics when absoultely necessary, as in an infection that your body can't fight off itself. This is to prevent side effects and to prevent developing drug-resistant strains of bacteria. There are many types of flu- some affect the throat more than others. Wait 3-4 days and see how you feel.

There are loads of germs about at the moment and it sounds like you have a throat infection which could develop into a cold. Stay indoors, take paracetamol, drink lots of fluids and see how you go. Get well soon.

It sounds like it's your glands playing up, when they swell it feels like a long, dull ache. It depends how long it's been like that for but if it lasts for more than a few days or gets a lot worse, or if you're feeling very tired too then see a doctor. If you are a student be aware that it might be contagious and you may have caught it from someone and could spread it on, too. I know it sounds harsh!

are you worried about anything else...........my throat ached for months when my husband was very ill, and now i know where the saying lump in the throat comes from because it felt like there was a thumb pressing on where my Adams apple would be if i was a man.
so if you are worrying about a parent or boyfriend or work it might be that.

It doesn't take much time to see a doctor although you might have to wait for a couple of days before he/she can see you. It can be a cold or something else. Better go see your GP to have it properly diagnosed. Get well soon.
