You are only going to wear it once.
My daughters grew up to be bigger than me and my dress would never have fit them inspite of alterations.
A growing family needs space.
Keep your pictures in good condition for the memories an rent the dress, spend the money you save on your honeymoon and make it more memorable.

I was going to rent my dress to save money, and went to a store that rents/sells gowns, and I fell in love with a gown there. It was going to be $600 for the dress, slip, veil & headpiece (the dress is a $1,200 Maggie Sottero). My two hesiations were, what if they sold the dress off the rack before my wedding? What if they went out of business? I went on ebay and found the dress I had tried on and won it for $500! Now I can at least turn around and sell it after the wedding, and still end up saving a little money in the long run. Good luck to you!

Well, a wedding gown is something you use only once so you would save a lot of money if you just rented it instead of buying one they can run fairly high in price. However, if you buy one the good thing about that would be you can hand it down to your children and have them see it when they are growing up and maybe let them try it on.

Both have their advantages. It really depends on how sentimental you are. Think about after your wedding will you be happy giving that dress back to a store, not having the chance to someday let you daughter wear it(even if she's just playing dress up) and never seeing the dress from the happiest day of your life again. If this is not what's important to you then renting is fine. It has many advantages, mostly it's cheaper, and if your heart is set on an amazing dress that maybe you can't afford to buy but could afford to rent, then maybe renting is a good option to you. But it all comes down to what is important to you: do you want to have a dress that you only wear once, but serves as a memory for years to come; or would you rather have the extra money to spend on something else(honeymoon, ceremony, house, etc.) Again its all about your feelings. Cause remember it's YOUR day!

Unless you are a weird size: Renting because it is cheaper and what are you going to do with the wedding gown once you wear it? You can get a much more expensive gown for a lot less money.

I think that it is better to buy because if u are renting a dress, you are wearing something that somebody else wore. There is just something so special about going to a dress shop, trying on what seems like hundreds of dresses then you find "the dress". Renting is much cheaper, but i feel that the dress is a major part of what makes your wedding day very special. Do not miss out on that.

It's really all about what you want and your circumstances. If you can afford a brand new dress and don't mind the fact that you will never wear it again. Then why not. But if you think thats too much money to waste and can be used for something else. Then don't do it. But don't buy one in plans that maybe your future daughter will want to wear it because you might not ever even have a daughter or she could grow up to be bigger than you or lets face it moms and daughters don't always have the same fashion sense. I love my mom to death but I would never wear her dress. And then do you really want to wear a dress that somebody else has already worn. If you don't want to spend that much money on a dress then maybe you could even look into buying used. It's a hell of alot cheaper and you still get to keep it. But it's always fun to show your children what your dress looked like an dif you have a daughter I'm sure that one day she will want to try it on. I'm getting married in June and I just bought a brand new dress and I can't wait to wear it and know that I am the only woman that has ever worn it and that one day my daughter will want to play dress up and I'll be happy to let her try it on. But if you really can't decide I say why risk renting and then you might want to keep it and can't. Just really think about it and it will all work out for what is right for you. Good Luck!!!

With the money you would spend on buying one here, you could pay for a short trip to, say, China or India and buy a much prettier gown there (much cheaper) and still have a couple of days of fun. I have heard they have good tailors in Hong Kong and parts of India. Seriously. If you want top of the line, then go to Italy, but they are expensive there.
I would buy one overseas.

If you want to pass it down to your kids buy it. And really enjoy looking for that perfect one that describes just who you are. Are you a simple country girl or a adorned princess. Otherwise just rent one. But be carefull were you rent it, after all you only get this particular moment once. Make sure there is no funky smell and yucky stains on it. Also find out the after cost for stains, repairs, and other hidden cost. In the end it may be less expensive to just buy your dress. But whatever you choose enjoy finding that perfect dress and don't settle for "I guess that one is nice." You can't redo this day make sure there is no regrets. I bought my dress and I am glad I did. I love the pictures I have in it because the dress was the one I wanted and I was truly happy with my man and my wonderful day. All of my girls want to wear it on their special day.

Definitely rent! Carried around stupid wedding gown for 10 years and then threw it away when my marriage broke down. My daughter deserves a brand new gown--fresh start--no bad karma attached.
Of course if you have an heirloom gown that has good karma attached go for it!
