I would much rather prefer exercising outdoors, but since it's cold out now, I have to go to the gym in order to stay fit. Some days, I actually look forward to it. Others (and these are probably the majority), I dread going. Mostly these are the days on which I've sinned with unhealthy food choices, and I know I will have to spend at least an hour in there. Sometimes it just feels so unfair to think that there will be no real end to the gym, unless I don't mind gaining weight. If I want to look good, I have to keep on going. This depressing thought can really ruin the day sometimes.

But it's true that once you start seeing good results, you get more motivated. About a year ago, I had fabulous results, but over the summer I couldn't go to the gym and lost it all. And it's hard to get back to where you were.

So don't worry, no one really likes the gym. Most people have to force themselves.

I love going to the gym, because once I've finished my session I always feel a lot better.

If you don't enjoy going to the gym then you should think about doing something else, why not go walking, cycling or go swimming instead.

Either that or why don't you have a word with the instructors at the gym and get them to put you on a programme. Have you ever thought of getting an exercise buddy when you have a friend or someone else there that really helps as you encourage each other and its someone to talk to (and compete against)

Then maybe you need to find something you like to do or try different equipment at the gym. If you don't like it you wont stay with it. I love to go run after a long day at work. I some times hate it before I head out the door, but I come back with energy to get me through the rest of the evening and I'm never sorry I put on the ole sneakers

Judging by the previous responses it's not just you. However, I really like going to the gym. I go Monday-Friday immediately after work, I bring my gym bag with me and normally do about 60-75 minutes of cardio, 20 minutes of abs, and 25 minutes of strength training. I have gotten great results and now I just feel addicted. I even go one day on the weekends. May sound like a lot but it's how I spend my free time and it's relaxing. Maybe if you find a cardio workout you really enjoy it will seem less like a chore and more enjoyable. Good luck!

At first I loved the gym, now I just love their sauna.
Sometimes it's just a matter of finding someone to go with so I won't be bored and staring at the walls, others it's just not wanting to look at the other people there in the rows upon rows of mirrors.

Now, I have to go at certain times of the day to get a level of solitude (not too many other humans and I can take my time) and make sure I have my music mixed so I can close my eyes on some of the equipt. work out. and not watch the crappy stations on the gym tv or the mirrors.

I still love the sauna.

It is always like that to most people, but if you just treat the gym as part of your work, then you will get over this dreading thing. To be fit, does not mean you have to train everyday, try doing it three times a week.
When gyming you set yourself goals to achieve and you do so within a set time limit. Most people when they are in the gym, seem to be embarrassed in going through their set goals instead they end up chatting and fail to acomplish their objectives.
Good results can only be achieved through perseverance, so drag your booty over there and get working!

Motivation is everything. I don't enjoy going to a gym, unless I'm in the mood, and have lots of basic home fitness stuff that I drag out when I can be bothered. I know that keeping fit is important for a healthy lifestyle and make up for it by lots of walking i.e. to and from my local station and horse riding. Finding an activity you enjoy is the best motivation.

I don't. I prefer a private workout. I am paranoid =-) I can't stand people even looking at me when I'm running. I have a home treadmill, a bike, and a jumprope. The only thing I like about gyms is the fact that they have TVs in front of their treadmills and they have all the cool weight machines.

I too totally, immensely dislike and form of exercise except for walking. I was always lucky and had a high metabolism, stayed slim, till after 40. My b/f says he loves to run and work out at the gym, just doesn't have (make) time for it.

NO. I just purchased a rowing machine and some weights and have been using them at home in a good environment for the past three months. Next i want to buy some 'gym mats' cos they smell good.
