My year old 25 dollar DVD player broke this week and I just want to get rid of it. I am sure it isn't of much use to anyone but does one just throw it in the trash or are there places one can take such things?

Please Recycle!! All electronics contain dangerous lead and other heavy metals, even cellphones in their chips. Most stores that sell electronics now take the broken ones back for recycling. If you are not a customer of theirs, they may charge a little, there is a .35/lb charge at my computer store in VT for old computer monitors, for them to send it away to recycling warehouses that protect the workers from exposure while breaking down the product into reusable and not reusable components. Save our land and water from toxic landfills!

Search for Electronics Recycling in your area. I think best buy does it, but am unsure. The components are highly toxic.

Take it to Goodwill..they work with your city to recycle all broken or partially working electronics of all shapes in sizes. They will take it off your hands for free.

or you can call your city's recycling company for your nearest drop off location.

I would go with goodwill though..its the easiest way.

First maybe check if there are parts you can recycle? Maybe all? Then take it to safe disposal. (Our county has a special site for safe disposal and demands it for electronic gear.)
