I just read a Q, and it really got me pi$$ed. What makes it ok for a girl to say any of the following (assuming they truly mean it, and I am sure there are guys who say this crap, too):

This can't work out, or I don't deserve you, or Why would you even want to be with me???

etc, etc, etc

Why can't we let our bf/gfs make their own decisions about how they feel about us? My gf told me this a couple of times and, while flattering in a macabre way, I thought it was selfish to be honest, that she doesn't want to let me make up my own mind about her.

its a self confidence issue, you either have to prove to her that there is alot about her that you love and that she deserves to be loved, or you leave and find someone who doesn't have that problem.

Take it as a compliment. Don't take it completely to heart. It's a matter of self esteem on the girls part. Women are known to have more of a self esteem issue then guys are. We are worried about how we look and how people see us. We don't like to be judged. So when we find a guy that is perfect to us and treats us great - we don't think we deserve them because in our eyes - we aren't perfect and there are other women that are. I understand your point of view of the comment but you have to understand that this is not meant as disrespect for you or meant that you can't make up your own mind. The woman sees you as being this perfect man that she just feels she doesn't deserve in her life for one reason or another.
So the next time she says this to you - reassure her that she IS worth your love and affection.
Good luck!

Its a way to make the person doing the breaking up sound like a better person when really they are just selfish like you said. What I feel "Its not you its me" type of break up lines really say is "You arent right for me and I dont want to be with you anymore and I am making this decision not you"

Most of the time when a girl says "this cant work out" or "i dont deserve you" shes trying to break up with you without hurting your feelings.

It sounds like she's insecure about how you feel about her. Maybe she wants you to be the one to say that so she can protect herself from getting hurt. She sounds insecure and just wants you to keep saying "You're the one I want to be with". It sounds stupid but I'm a girl and I like hearing that too...girls are overly sensitive and your love needs to be reaffirmed. Slip in little comments like "I'm so glad you're the one I'm with....I would never want to be with anyone but you....etc"

these are women with self esteem problems. in that way, they are right, You should find someone better.

However, it is not because of a serious flaw that they (those girls ) have other than they think themselves to be so worthless.

Or... it's possible they want to break up with you and don't want to tell you why.

It's a way for them to break up with you and give you the impression that you are better than they are. Kind of like letting you down easy.

It just sounds better than "I hate your sorry a**" or "I found someone better than you".

It all hurts the same, though.
