My understanding of your question is that you open the bibile spontenously and you expect to find the answer in front of you?

if my understanding is,correct, then here is what I believe.

For a Christian that is born again there is a helper that is the Holy Spirit that was promised by Jesus, who would come and help the believer in his daily walk with Christ. It is my belief and am persuaded that the Holy Spirit speaks to us in a small still voice even in the storm. When you listen he will guide you to understand the word of God. He will guide you on how to pray, when to pray and what to pray about. He is not an influence but a person that allows you your free will

When you read the bible always pray and you may set a systematic way to read it for your own quiet time or may even use a daily guide that gives topic on various issues of life and the bible verses relating to the same. As you read the bible your faith will grow and you will learn how to pray and God will answer your prayer through the word or even through people and experiences in your life.

Jesus taught the diciples the Lord's Prayer a simple prayer that covers our every daily need. Luke11:1-13

By the way my defination of a prayer is an open sincere conversation with God. that means you are in a dialogue and God will answer always.

I hope I have contributed something to help you.
bye

You can gain insight and wisdom on ANY page in the bible but I don't think God just magically makes the answers appear. Use the concordance in the back or buy a good study Bible that references how the written Word can relate to our lives today. I always say a prayer before studing the Word so I can see what God might be telling me how it relates to me today, sometimes He also might bring to mind specific scriptures depending on what I'm praying about.

I have seen God use this method on occasion, and I say on occasion because this is not how He naturally desires us to seek for wisdom/answers... He does give us gifts like this once in a while knowing what an encouragement it will be to us. For most instances however we can simply "be still and wait on him", the already deposited Word of God in our heart and the prompting of the Holy Spirit is usually enough to get pretty clear decernment on a particular issue. Remember that God is a person, so simply talk/pray your question over with Him (look at the Pslams)... faith is important enough to note here, because in faith we stand on the truths of the word of God and in faith we also need to accept the sometimes surprising answers we get from the Lord on a particular topic. Be prepared not to have answers that line up with your expectations. Blessings...

No, that is not my way of prayer. I have done that sometimes and it can be interesting. How I pray is I talk to my Lord like He is my friend and with me right here where I am.

I like to pray scripture but answers do not come usually the way you descried here. I constantly read Bible and study God's word. When I do that, God brings me answers for my situation from the Bible. And He also uses people and different circumstances to communicate with me.

Everything happens in God's timing, but He indeed answers. We have difficulties to wait, because we live in "fast everything " society...fast cars, fast women, fast food and sometimes we get angry when the drive thru is not fast enough. Have you ever wanted one special person to contact you...waiting is hard...and sometimes we cannot understand the silence...the same way with God. We are impatient. But we are never in the wrong when we put our faith in God. He will never leave us or break a promise...

Keep praying, God love when we bring our lives to Him. God bless!

friend, that is not true in every case, in some cases yes, But to say the thing I prayed for is right in front of me on the page I open up, is not true all the time. Maybe sometime, What if I prayed for someone that was sick & I ask God to let him live, If God would honor that prayer will he take me to a verses talking about death.

I started out as a christian and was born again as an atheist. Does that count? I have heard of this before, but never found it to be true. There are too many parts that say so and so begat mojab and hijab to have a chance at a good answer that way. Besides what if you open up a page that said how god ordered the destruction of a nation? Will the reader then become a terrorist by taking the advice he assumes comes from god? Hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm chew on that one for a while, O.K.? Peace

Its true! When I have fallen on hard times, I go to my Bible, ask God for help, close my eyes, open it up, flip till it feels right to stop, and my answer is there.

One time, it didnt work. I found nothing to help me. And days later, when things came out a way I wasn't hoping they would, I discovered not finding comfort WAS the answer. Odd, huh?

When I was a baby Christian God spoke to me that way because he wanted to get through my thick skull and make me realize he was alive and real in the Scriptures- but now He has higher expectations for me- to whom much is given, much is required.

It has worked at times, but its not fail proof. Look in a concordance under the word defining your problem and look up the scripture references to get a better idea of an answer.

that is call putting out a fleece. In general I do not rely on possiblities. I usually wait on the answer and not assume. Not to say this has not happen or that it could not happen. It is not my general way of expecting answers
