Pathology is the study of disease, however ALL doctors use pathology to assess a patient. For example, heart disease is diagnosed and treated by a cardiologist, rheumatoid or osteoarthritis are examples of joint disease which are treated by a rheumatologist, and dermatologists treat skin disease. Most illness has what is referred to as an 'underlying pathology', or a disease which causes the symptoms. Whilst a pathologist looks at disease in general and identifies diseases, each medical discipline has a hand to play in the treatment of specific diseases.
Here are a couple more disciplines, and their treatment area:

Endocrinology - Hormones & The endochrine system (diseases of)
Diabetologist - Diabetes and diseases of the hepatic system (liver)
Orthopaedics - Bones (disease and damage)
Paediactrics - illness and disease affecting children
ENT - Ear, Nose and Throat -
Haematology - Literally 'Blood Doctors' looking at diseases of the blood.

I hope that helps.

Pathologist is the correct word. Patho meaning 'disease' and logist meaning 'one who studies'.

Medical terms are generally Greek. Like:

psychologist - one who studies the mind (psych)
audiologist - one who studies audio (hearing)
genealogist - one who studies genes
ophthalmologist - one who studies diseases of the eyes

It's not just specific to medicine. Such as meteorologist - one who studies meteors. In a way, the definition of many words are part of the word, itself. Very common throughout the English language.
