Gatorade is older, came out first I mean. Was actually developed by some scientists or something for the Florida Gators football team. It's a good drink because of the electrolytes, which I don't know exactly how to explain what they're good for. Eventually, it got marketed and copyrighted and now I think Coca-Cola owns Gatorade. This isn't info from Wikipedia or the web.
Although, I heard that Powerade is more beneficial than Gatorade. Just don't start drinking Red Bull or something if you are exercising. Carbonated drinks can cause cramping in muscles. I know this cuz my cross country and track coach (same guy) used to always get pissed off if he saw us drinking soda.

I find that gatorade works better. I use these products only when I'm hungover to get over the thirst and they work amazingly. I drink powerade though because I think it tastes better.

Gatorade came first, altho they both contain electrolytes that refuel you (which water does not contain) I think Gatorade taste better, but smart water is good for you and contain electrolytes as well, i would go with Gatorade or smart water

I think Gatorade came first. Aren't they made by the same company? That would make them pretty much similar in effect.

Im not sure which is older but I've always preferred Powerade. I think I started that because it had nicer packaging but I think the flavours are better too.

It's a matter of personal preference on taste.. when using them after endurance events the goal is to replace the fluid and electrolytes in the body to avoid dehydration

Unless you are sweating a lot and losing a lot of electrolytes there is no reason to drink either - just drink water. Now if you are training for a marathon or triathalon, it is a different story
