It means you are careless or someone else's careless affected you. Nothing like predestinated or foreordination or such like. You are the master of your fate.

Despite what some have said, the dictionary says:
Controled by, or subject to, fate.
FATE:
That which will happen ....there is no averting it.
It is often used in a negative sense.
