If so what did you get out of it? Im a Christian and am starting a new Church on Sunday and they also offer a Alpha Course. Im 26 and love live, have lots of friends, ohac etc, etc .... but I also want God to be part of my life although I don't want believing in 'God' to define who I am - I don't want to attend the course if its going to brain wash me!!

Ive done the Alpha course. It's okay in parts. But then again; You take what you want from it.

I am a Christain BUT I do not attend a church anymore as i'm sure you will experience this - people will from upon you. There are a few Christians that are very slef rightious and think of themselves as Holier-than-tho. Do not allow yourself to be jaded by these people - they are no better than anyone and are sinners themselves.

If you are accepting Jesus into your life then it is a personal thing. You and him have a personal relationship that no one should be able to touch or influence.

We all are sinners really. But it's just about trying to live the best life you can, be a nice, kind, honest person - but these are not really rules of the bible - it's common sense.

A book I would like to sugest is "Purpose driven Life" - check it out. It's a wonderful read.

I became a Christian about 4 months ago and I am currently half-way through the Alpha course. I totally recommend it, it's great! There are about 20 of us on it, ranging from non-Christians to people who have been Christians for years. There is no pressure to believe certain things or make decisions, it is just a really interesting way of finding out more, debating issues and gaining a different perspective on things. It has really helped me understand more about what being a Christian means (which I thought I knew already), and helped me get to know Jesus, which has been amazing and totally changed my life.

Before I started the course I thought it might be quite dull, but it isn't at all. And we get free dinner! (Does that convince you?!)

If you are considering it at all, please do it - you won't regret it, I promise.

We have several parishes that teach it. It's OK. It has a certain Protestant slant that I could do without. With some "tweaking" toward the traditional teachings on the Sacraments and how they work....I could use it. It does cover the basics fairly well.

But as it is written and as it is taught....I find it lacking.

The Alpha people prefer that you don't mess with their program - so I have chosen not to teach it.

P.S. It was devised originally by Anglicans. I am an Anglican priest and not Roman Catholic.

You're a christian. You're already brainwashed.

You've got nothing further to lose.

But then I'll let you know if I ever start up the Omega Course for removing brain-washing from people...

Real Christians stay as far away from that as possible. It is along the lines of Masonic doctrine that says there is no ultimate truth. It loves the idea of relativity.
