There are a lot of mixed answers. It does seem possible that some people are trying to rationalize their smoking by saying it doesn't affect you physically or mentally. But then again, I am not so sure because some of the people I have talked to seem to be incredibly smart with their research. And the people who tried to say smoking marijuana doesn't affect your voice? That's crap, I at LEAST know that they are wrong on that. It may not be as bad as cigarettes, but it's still bad. One girl says she's been smoking for 10 years and it hasn't affected her voice. That doesn't matter!!! It will eventually!!! And even if she stopped today, the long-term effects could still get to her vocals ANYWAY. So I also know that any kind of smoking CAN have negative effects on your lungs at least. I was asking about judgment and motor skills. Personally, I think it can't be good for that either, but I'm not so sure. Here's a link to my first post.

Ok people, I am NOT judging it. I was ASKING questions about it, and also to the commenter after her, is it so hard to believe that someone could be interested in this sort of information without wanting to try it! Cause that's me!!! I don't need to try it! And about the legalization, my opinion on that so far is, if they're gonna make cigarettes legal, then why not marijuana. Because from the research I DO have on my toolbelt, my conclusion is that cigarettes are MORE harmful, so why would they have those be legal and not marijuana...it's like well if you HAVE to be dumb enough to make cigarettes legal, than marijuana should be as well!

No-one can say anything about weed unless they've tried it themselves. There's a lot of propaganda out there. Me personally, I started smoking weed when I was 14 to ease my pain and "escape" an unstable family life. When I smoked weed, it made me feel better!
Now that I'm older, 29, I find I no longer need it. I used it for self-medication because I lack a natural chemical in my brain called dopamine, which you also get from cigarettes and alcohol. I started taking Wellbutrin XL, the anti-depressant some people use to quit smoking and it has changed my life. I no longer have the ups and downs I had with weed, cigarettes and alcohol, and I feel a lot healthier.

I've been smoking weed for about ten years. I know it definitely affected my voice. I'm a much lighter smoker now than I ever was, and as far as I can tell, the smoking has limited my high range and made my voice more chesty. (I have my degree in music education)
Pot definitely affects your lungs- it's unfiltered. There are things out there called vaporizers which burn weed at the temperature at which THC is released, which I'm pretty sure is like 135 degrees Fahrenheit. Using a lighter to burn weed makes it much much higher. A vaporizer is pretty much a heat gun. It actually doesn't burn the weed at all, it just kind of turns it into weird stinky brown plant matter, and lets you get the high without the added burning of the lungs.
I do think weed can affect your mental health also, because although it's not physically addictive, I think it's mildly psychologically addictive. Basically, it's just really fun to smoke pot. The high is fun, and can be relaxing, and from what I understand, smoking weed is safer for most people than drinking alcohol.
It's really your choice. If you're a singer and worried about your voice, and have gone this long without smoking, don't. But, I honestly don't think smoking a couple times in your life will have a major impact. It'll definitely hurt your lungs the first time if you've never smoked.
Check out the NORML website, they have a lot of information, although it could be slightly skewed because they are an organization trying to legalize marijuana.
Whatever your decision is, make sure it's your decision and you're not feeling pressured into smoking or not smoking. It's your body, your lungs, your voice, and you're the only one who should have ANY say in it. Good luck!

I have been smoking weed for 34 years. I can tell you that it does not impair my motor skills or make me where I can not make a rational decision. I have smoked some of the best in the world, from all around the world. It is not at all like alcohol.
I have 3 sons, and I would much rather see them smoke a joint as to even open a can of beer.

I thinkg ppl need to be more educated on marijuana! Yes it can lead to side effects but same with alcohol.. Which has killed how many lives? while there is no record of any1 dieing from THC[the chemical in Cannabis wich gets you 'stoned'.] But Marijuana isnt for everyone.. And its not something that is ment to be abused, but enjoyed theres a big difference!
I think you need to do a little bit more reasearch on the subject before you start passing judgement.

There is no way on this earth that smoking that junk will not effect you. I believe that many of the people that you querry just out right lied to you. I have seen many very smart people smoke that stuff and and changed totally. I don't give a rats butt as to how smart they are if they smoke that stuff if will effect you in some negtive manner. and over a longer period of time it will effect your IQ even more.. I am saying that just smoking cigarettes have a negitive effect on the human body. And that stuff has even a greater effect on the human body............

1. Barney would tell the kids what he REALLY thinks of them 2. My mom would become even more paranoid 3. A horse would either run like crazy during the triple crown or stagger out the gate and just pass out 4. George Bush would still be George Bush 5. Oprah would make it rain on her studio audience, dump Stedman and party with Diddy 6. I would just pick up where I left off two years ago when I stopped smoking

Yes it affects your coordination and all the rest too. Like alcohol, it depends on how much use, and how tolerant your body is. Some people use it for years and years with no visible problems, others you can tell immediately.

I think Weed definatly impares you judgement and motor skills. It would depend on how much you smoke as to how much it effects you.
If you are going to do it, once in awhile no more.

Don't think too much of it, It might be that it affects people differently.
Don't stoop to the level of getting so curious that you'll try it! Just leave it alone. That's my best advice.
