If you turn around and no one is following you, you are not a leader. If people do not copy what you do and follow your lead, then they don't consider you a leader.

If you are trying to lead, you must have people who are willing to follow you. A true leader is one who people willigly follow (the followers must have a choice to follow or not). If you have no followers, you are not a true leader.

Basically if you are a bad leader no one will follow you. Some people are natural leaders and have people following them and they don't even know it.

If you think you are a leader but no one is following you, you are not an effective one (or not a leader).
