Proportionally, probably just as many as any other Armed Force. War is a messy business which, despite the wishes of some, has few clear rules. It's frightening and people do irrational things when they are frightened/scared. The biggest problem the American armed forces has is that in the interests of 'clarity', 'transparency' and 'openness' it tends to encourage the media to accompany it on operations; conveniently forgetting that the media often have different agendas - selling papers/advertising space etc. and mistakes and 'bad' news are great sellers! Liberal, rose-tinted spectacles do not always serve the cause of truth, accuracy or historical fact.

Probable a few, but I don't think any of our troops wakes up in the morning saying "I think I will just go out and kill someone for fun and screw anyone that gets in the way. There have been incidents where we have shot our own, allies, etc. Sh!t happens in war and it is something these guys/gals have to live with. The battlefield is not something well orgainized and things happen that you can not say " hey lets do a do over" like in school.

Not very many. Every time a US servicemember has a fratricide/collateral engagement it is the top story in the news media. This produces an exaggerated impression of how common it is.

One thing you have to remember is that (unlike most other nations) we publicly announce these incidents.

When I was in Iraq there were several incidents where British and Polish troops accidentaly engaged US troops. To avoid embarrassing our allies we did not issue any press releases.

You wouldn't be free right now if our troops weren't sacrificing their lives and getting blown up leaving their wives and children. The ones getting out with serious injuries are having a hard time receiving benefits. Sometimes I wonder what their defending US for when only 1/2 of 1% even have the guts to volunteer in mortal combat.

researcher...pretty dumb name for someone who jumps to assumptions. Idiot. I am sure there were plenty of friendly fire incidents. They just don't make the headlines because not everyone in the military is a status symbol of society, we are just humble proud americans serving our country.
