Every cat has their own personality. I have 3 cats. One stays with me in bed at night by my pillow. One hates to be held & the other is a hermit. Don't hold the cat if if doesn't want to be held. That will only cause problems. You don't want to get scratched or bitten do you?

Some cats don't like to be held. A lot of it depends on what happened to them when they were kittens. My boy, Remington, was abandoned as a kitten and had issues about it for years, though he never swatted or hissed (he used to squirm and growl). He's nine now and just starting to get to the point where he won't put up a huge fight if I pick him up. He, too, loves to be petted and comes over all the time for lovin', but he gets very tense when I pick him up and hold him. He just needs to be in control of the relationship.

I got two cats, one loves to be petted and pick up and the other ones just likes to be petted. When I try to pick this cat up he runs away. I guess is the cat"s character :)

Some cats don't like to be held. Baby fights and cries like he thinks he's going to be beaten if I try to pick him up. He's never been hurt in his life, and he only got this way after we had him neutered. He will get up on my shoulder at night, and that's his time, no one else gets in then...Princess hates being picked up too. Captain Worf, however, will trip you if you don't take him. It's just the cat. If you keep after her, you can train her to like it, but it takes a while.

Some cats just don't like to be picked up. If you haven't had her very long it could be an issue with trust. She may just need more time to get used to you.

Have you gotten her recently? She made need time to adjust. Did you do something she did not like?
Cats are not very forgiving and it takes them time to "kiss and makeup"
Get her some special treats and pat her while trying to put her in your lap and give a cuddle whilst giving treats.

my cat is now 18 years old. she was the same way, which I liked because I didnt want a cuddley cat. only when she was pregnant did she want to cuddle.
my suggesting add another cat to the family or a small dog that wants to cuddle.

Patience, patience, patience. If you can wait out her shyness, she'll reward you with the cuddles YOU want!!!
