Christianity does, although some denominations don't. Other religions have other variations of this.

Well yes I am Pentecostal. But the problem is this, tongues has more than one function in the body of Christ. There is a speaking in tongues which requires a interpretation. And the interpretation is for others to be edified or be built up in The Lord. This type of speaking in tongues is given by The Holy Spirit and not every body gets that gift. It is determined by The Holy Spirit. Now Jesus Himself said in Mark 16:15-18. That these signs shall follow them that are baptized in believe. Jesus said they would cast out devils, lay hands on the sick, and they will speak in "new tongues". The tongue that Jesus was referring to at this time was a "sign" or "mark" of the evidence of The Holy Spirit in a believer. Everyone who believes should experience the "sign" or "mark", because that's what Jesus Himself said. Now, the reason everyone does not speak is because they are at a church where it is not taught. It does not mean you can not do it. But you can be hindered from the manifesting of it through incorrect teaching. So, you can be saved, In Christ for years, and it not manifest. When I gave me life to Christ, I received the sign. But I did not speak again for years because someone told me I did not need to and I believed them. But when I got in ministry, my pastor at that time told me I should be praying in tongues. He taught all week about tongues. At the end of the week, I was praying in tongues. I then realized I taught unbelief, that's why the tongues never manifested after the first time. So, yeah, you can be saved and not be speaking in tongues. But eventually, it will probably manifest and some people speak in tongues in their sleep and don't know it. (lal). Okay, sorry too long. Hope this helps.

Many of the Christian denominations believe in it. All Christian groups do, but same believe it is no longer valid for today. The groups that still practice it today are usually considered to be "pentecostal" (since it started on the day of Pentecost) or "charismatic" (from the greek word for "gifted" - it is considered one of the gifts of the Holy Spirit). Even many who attend churches that are not specifically "charismatic", speak in tongues privately.
