I just got a call from my doctor. She found a hard mass on my ovary(not a fluid-filled cyst). She said is is highly unlikely that it is ovarian cancer because I am only 29. I do have to go for more blood work and another ultrasound in 4 weeks to see if it disappears. What are the chances of having ovarian cancer at 29. I have infertility problems(PCOS) and this was the reason for the ultrasound. Can anyone help?

Please stay on top of this. Yes, it might be cancer. It could be a very rare sarcoma, which is often mistaken for ovarian cancer. I have witnessed far too many family doctors or OB/GYN doctors really not have a clue when it comes to sarcoma (because they've never seen it in their practice).

The young ladies that I know that have desmoplastic small round cell tumor (an abdominal sarcoma that is often mistake for ovararine or uterine cancer)are all under the age of thirty years old, with the youngest being around 10 years old. You can thumb through some of the sites from these young patients.

Fortunately, the disease is very rare. But if there is a slight chance that you have DSRCT it is imperative to treat it early.

Good luck.

Listen to your doctor. If she thought it was cancer she would tell you. She is doing the tests just to make sure. Yes, you can get ovarian cancer at your age, but given your history it is most likely something else. Think of cancer like a yard stick, with 0 being no cancer and 36 being the worst possible case. Because you have been under a Drs. care for the infertility problems , if it were cancer you would be catching it extremely early so you would be at like a half inch on the yard stick. Stay under the care of your doctor. Listen to her.

My Dear Rene.
Do not wait 4 weeks because your doctor said you are young and unlikely have Ovarian Cancer.
I would ask for an MRI instead. I was dianosed with 1C stage Ov cancer and if I was waiting like my doctor suggested I would not be here. As you see my stage is only 1C but I have a malignant cancer.Had hysterectomy ( I am over 40) and now I am fighting it myself. I refused chemo and radiation. I am researching everything possible for alternative treatments.
You my dear should not wait anylonger. Just recently I come accross Cancer establishment that said that fertility drugs may cause cancer. If you were taking any please do not wait...go and check it out. DO NOT LET YOUR DOCTOR TELL YOU YOU ARE TOO YOUNG. Picture yourself "f anything is to happen cancer wise and you wait ???imagine what your doctor would say then??? He/She would find million scientific excuses to cover his/hers ***.My doctor was surprised because I had a simple cyst on my ovary. But I won my fight with him and I am alive now without grater stage of my cancer.
DO NOT WAIT.PLEASE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
