Think of it as you in your own life. You play many roles during the course of your life - there are many facets to you, and you have had many faces thus far and will have many more before you die. Just look in your old photo albums. Any complex being would have that, don't you think?
The many faces of God kind of personifies into individual roles and personae the different parts and perspectives through life. We are always the same sex, because we are limited by our gender - but God is limitless and so it knows no bounds in expressing all the various perspectives. Does that help?

as i understand it they are all avatars or aspects of the one true god...they worship each aspect for its characteristics they are seeking to propitiate or encourage.
