I have brought people around to my way of thinking before.... and utterly defeated them....
It only really counts as a victory if they acknowledge it as your win themselves..... which is VERY rare.... but it has happened. It is IMMENSELY satisfying when it does happen though.
Most of the time the other person just ends up throwing a childish stroppy fit when they have to face me, and either run off crying or curl up and repeat themselves ad infinitum as though trying to convince themselves of what they're saying... to conquer the seeds of doubt I've sown...
Its amusing when that happens, but I don't count it as a full victory.... only partial points.
On a few occasions I have genuinely had a total stalemate... but I have never lost.... ever.

If i wanted I could win 100% and for a few years in the 80's did. What I saw was that it did not change minds only that people would rather hide when they saw me coming.. People want to hear what they already believe that is why we have so many really poor preachers (yes good ones too) cuz people people if told they need to change and grow every week cry and say oh me oh my I changed like you suggested and it solved one problem but another just pops up what is the use (I typed that in a whinny wuse voice). Its like duh, learning is not a one week a year job it's like a marriage except with Jesus there is no divorce and blaming Him for your problems has no reward.
I noticed in one of your answers you mentioned religions brought wars. I think if you study your history you will find it was merchants behind each and every case. They see we do not practice accountability get their influence in and since religion is one thing people will die for they stirr religious people up and then there is a war. It is not the religion or the scriptures it is the conditions and greed from non- religious that cause the wars to be fought. All scripture teaches aggression is wrong, including the Qur'an which advocates self defense more than others.

I see alot of people saying that a religous debate cannot be won, however a method of effectively winning a religous debate is to change the religous views of another to fit your own. For example, there are many historians who can assess the bible and reveal all forms of examples of other religions christianity may have been based off of.
For example, it was originally believed that the ocean was an altrenate plane and was revered as heaven. Legends spoke of a man who came from the sea to do all these great things, like Jesus. If we look at Mary's name and compare it to the latin word "Mare" for sea, and look at how another religion had their savior born of the mare, and compare it with christianity's savior being born of Mary, we can see some strong roots there. This is only one minor point, I will not go into more depth out of respect of the religions of other's and not wanting to shake them.

I believe the only way to truely win is for both parties to learn something about the other's beliefs, and to walk away from the debate with no hard feelings or embarassment.
I debate religion often with my brother and I believe we both "win" so to speak, because we learn from each other and it has never come between us. Debating is a good way to sort out your beliefs on some issues.
But it really isn't about winning or losing. I know that sounds trite but it is the truth when it comes to religion. It is about self exploration and a search for the truth, not about getting one over on someone else.
People who play "stump the christian" or "stump the atheist" never win because no one has all the answers.

I do not try to win a debate. If I can't reach a person's heart with what I have to say, there is no victory.

meager bragging rights and someone thinking the winner is a jerk. However, I doubt anyone can really win a religious debate. It's all how a person feels, mainly, and you can't win that debate.

Most of these debates tend to be battles of mutual ignorance and gross generalizations (mine are no exception).
However, I have yet to see an admission of defeat and so any claims to victory are necessarily one-sided. One-sided victories are hollow and who really cares what emotional gratification is derived from such claims.

Are we debating?
Learning from each other..may be the best word.
Who knows I can win your heart, to put God in the best place (center) of your heart. If He is there...then what are we still discussing with same belief?...but just talk only of LOVE, peace, joy, happiness, and blessedness.
Be blessed!!!

Those who believe and have the rightness of the Spirit do this due to the fact that sharing our witness is a command that Jesus gives us in Matthew 28

It is not up to me to win a religious debate. It is my duty to present God's word - He'll do the rest.
