You should contact your vet for your cat for the worm problem.
Cats only get fleas if they come in contact with another animal or you've moved into a new place that has fleas borrowed in the cracks of the floors from the last owners that had animals. Keep your cat indoors and buy a flea collar. Read instructions well before putting the collar on the cats neck. If you notice that most of your bites from fleas are around your ankle area wash your floors with really hot water. Boiled water for best results. Wear gloves so your hands don't get burned from water. Then buy a can of Raid or Flea spray from the pet store and spray your furniture, bedding, etc. Be sure cat does not come in contact with the Raid though.
There is also stuff at pet store for cats that have worms. Could try that as well. The cat is suffering more then you. Trust me.
Good luck.

I just learned this, this week as my cat has a tapeworm. The fleas carry the tapeworm larva & when your cat is grooming the infected flea gets ingested. The tapeworm then grows & you know the rest. So! getting rid of the fleas is paramount to your sense of cleanliness & your cat's health. Spend the extra money & get Frontline or Advantix. When my cat was treated with the Frontline she stopped scratching by the next day - no kidding! Take the extra time to treat the carpets in your home with a powder which kills the fleas. Keep your cat treated with the flea med you choose every month to prevent future flea infestation. Unfortunately, only the vet can diagnose & prescribe the proper medicine to kill the tapeworm. But you love your cat & must take care of it, so, sorry, but there is more money to spend. I can sympathize as I have recently had to go thru the same thing. Good luck to you & your well loved kitty.

First you need to get the fleas off the cat,Go to the vet they have Flea medicine you can spray directly on cat, then you must the fleas out of your home so the cat doesn't get them back, The flea foggers work the best..fog your entire house,(raid makes a good fogger) Fleas live in carpets, pretty much any place your cat roams. If you don't want to go to the vet, go buy a flea dip for cats, the dips are excellent, except the cats hate water, but they work very well.good luck!

To kill the fleas on her mix a solution of part water to part dish soap (palmolive, joy, or dawn). Put the soap on her DRY coat. Do not wet her down first. This will kill the fleas on her, but offers you no prevention. It will also clean the eggs off her coat. Let it sit for a few minutes and rinse it off. Contrary to what some think this is not going to be bad for her and is better that putting a harsh flea dip chemical on her skin. If you feel uncomfortable using dishsoap, try a solution of water mixed with her shampoo or just straight shampoo. you will know it worked after you rinsed dead fleas off. Make sure to use a sink or shower sprayer to get them off amd rinse her well. Dishsoap even mixed with water can be hard to rinse.

For your house, you can sprinkle borax, or epsom salt on your carpet at night, then vacuum up the next morning. Be sure to get under your bed and furniture. Wash your cats bedding andanywhere she lays around put the borax and salt. It kills flea eggs. At night, you can also set out a small pan of water with a couple drops of soap and put a light over it. The heat attracts the fleas and they will jump into the light and fall in the water and drown.

This may take a few rounds depending on how bad your flea problem is. You can also buy diatomaceous earth online or at a feed store to put outside and it is safe to put in your house too. It is a fossil that dehydrates the fleas. This will get rid of the adult fleas. If you put it in the house, vacuum it up after a day or so and put more down. Also, put some in your vacuum bag to kill whatever you vacuum up (same if you use salt or borax).

I don't like chemicals, so I try to use them as a last resort. If none of this works, time to go to the vet or go buy some frontline, but you must get them out of the house too.

Hope this helps.

You need to treat not just your pet, but the house too. Advantage I hear is good for pets. I believe you get that from the vet. You will probably need to get a flea bomb for the house. I was also told that there is some sort of spray that can be used for outdoors to keep them from getting in your house, but I am clueless as to what the product is called. Wished I could be more help! .

If you can't get to a vet, which is the real answer to your problem he'll treat the fleas with frontline plus and he will have to treat the cat for the worms.....he can fix your cat right up, it is worht the money spent to prevent it from happening in the first place, if you can't get to the vet, go to a pet store and ask for frontline plus for cats...ask them to explain to you how to use it...and I really can't tell you how important it is to take the cat to the vet for the worm treatment....

I found a few interesting websites. Including one that said that the problem isn't the fleas on your pet, but the fleas in your house! If you kill 30 fleas on your pet, about 570 of the nasty things are still jumping around in your home. So Advantage plus something to kill the little things in your home is probably the best solution.

Here are the sites I found:

the new flea medications available from you vet are pretty much foolproof. You only use them once a month. However you'll need to get rid of the existing fleas by setting off a bomb or caloling an exterminator.

we adopted a kitten who had fleas but didn't realize it until she had been out in our house with out other cat for a few days. We put both cats on revolution, washed everything fabric that was out in the house (even the curtains!), vacuumed every other day for a few weeks, and sprayed the carpet with a carpet treatment. We have not seen a single flea since! :) Good luck!

Try over the counter flea medicine. If that doesn't work, then take your cat to the vet.
