I am a veterinary student and yes you can get worms. It depends on the type of worm and your lifestyle. Humans can get tapeworms if they consume fleas (mostly common in children). Basically, if you keep your hands clean, shoes on your feet when you're outside, and do not consume dog poo or fleas, you are safe. The best thing is to get your puppy dewormed and vaccinated from a vet to prevent zoonotic diseases.

Yes, it is possible especially if you pick up your doggy waste, and your puppy has worms (very common), and don't wash your hands afterwards. The eggs can linger on the ground for a year so if you like to garden, clean up your doggy waste daily. Be sure to have your puppy (and adult dogs) wormed by a vet at least once a year to keep them and you healthy. It's easy and not very expensive.
I have attached a website. It is a Pooping Scooping service (I'm not promoting it) that has some very useful information.
Bottom line, have your puppy wormed, pick up the poo daily, dispose of it in the trash, and always wash your hands afterwards. We've had dogs all of our lives and so far, there hasn't been a problem with anyone in my family following these guidelines.

The answer is YES! You most certaintly can get worms from your puppy if she isn't dewormed right away. If you suspect that your puppy has worms, take her to the vet to have her dewormed

Can people get worms from their pets?
A. Roundworms and hookworms can be transmitted from pets to humans. Thousands of people in the U.S. become infected with roundworms and hookworms every year.
Humans become infected with roundworms when they ingest infective eggs from the soil or from their hands or another object. Large numbers of the eggs can accumulate in the soil where dogs and cats are allowed to defecate. The eggs are sticky, and can collect on the hands and under the fingernails of people. Children, and others who may not have good hygiene, are most prone to becoming infected.
People become infected with hookworms when the hookworm larvae in the ground penetrate through the skin. Persons who have contact with the ground, especially for long periods of time, such as plumbers or electricians, and sunbathers, especially those lying on wet sand or ground, are at increased risk.
Roundworm eggs and hookworms eggs and larvae need to be in the environment approximately two weeks, before becoming infective, so direct contact with an infected animal generally does not result in transmission. However, young puppies may continually contaminate their entire litter area. Adults and children who handle the ***** or puppies or who clean the area may be especially at risk.
If a human ingests roundworm eggs, the subsequent larvae can migrate through the person's tissues (this condition is called "visceral larva migrans") or eye ("ocular larva migrans"). Hookworm larvae migrate through the skin and cause a disease known as "cutaneous larval migrans."
To prevent human infection, good hygiene is extremely important. Teach children, especially, to wash their hands after playing and before eating. Do not let children play in areas where dogs or cats may have defecated. Do not allow cats to use sandboxes or the garden as litter boxes. Worm your pets as recommended, keep the environment clean, and control rodent populations.

Only if you are not a sanitary person. Wash your hands well after cleanig up after your puppy. Always clean up after your pupppy has a bowel movement. If you stay clean its not likely that you'll get worms.
