I'm from Texas, and I live in Connecticut
people ask or say to me,
"you're not from around here are you?"
"your accent is cute"
"you talk funny"
"what part of the south are you from"

my accent is not thick, however. I say "ya'll", and have a slight drawl (sp).
I find ya'll to be a much better term than "you guys", especially with a woman present.

peace

I love my folks Southern accents. I'm from the South too but I don't have too much of an accent unless someone from the city detects it. My mother said that someone from Canada loved her accent, it reminded them of love and the Southern Belle type thing from Gone With The Wind.

I live in the South, but am not from there originally. Right or wrong, I think a heavy southern accent makes someone sound less educated and less intelligent. But I also feel the same way about a heavy NY or NJ accent.

on the West Coast there are people from everywhere. maximum people residing in a city like Seattle weren't born there, they're from someplace else. you will pay attention a great form of accents. people many times -like- Southern accents. i understand I do (i'm from the San Francisco area, that's extremely comparable). see you later as you do no longer act like a redneck, people won't have a project with your accessory. BTW that's a eye-catching city, you will like it! It does rain an detrimental lot, although.

Southern drawls and twangs are JUST HORRIBLE TO LISTEN TO!!!

i CANNOT describe in words sufficient how repulsive this style of speech is.

The only thing southern accent is good for is when someone wants to solicit someone else for sex or to seduce them & get them to agree. Something about the languid way they speak suggests SEX invitations to intercourse, hustling or prostitution.

I prefer my educated refined NY accent - sharp, crisp, incisive, very direct & no-nonsense. Understood by everyone everywhere. I speak as a native NY person, not a transplant. Educated NY folks really set the standard for clear, unambiguous, practical, crisp & forceful American English.

So I utterly DESPISE Southern & Midwestern accents. I enjoy mid-Atlantic basic common speech - NY is the Best example.

i've travelled much, and THE MORE I HEAR OF OTHER REGIONAL ACCENTS, THE MORE i love MY NEW YORK ENGLISH.!!!!!

i don't find anything cute or amusing about southern speech or Midwest intonations. NOTHING.!!!!

It's really close to a British accent. Much better than the Northern accent (mine) which over-accentuates the "a" sound in words like apple. SO ANNOYING.

My boyfriend has one. I love it. I prefer Georgian over say, Texan or Arkansas..ian..(?)

I like the "Gone With the Wind" accent over the "Larry and Cable Guy" accent. But I like them both.

o0 But he tells me I have a silly Canadian accent. And I'm afraid he's right, eh. lol

I think non-Southerners tend to think we're kind of stupid. Jeff Foxworthy did a wonderful bit about how you don't want your brain surgeon to say something like, "An' now what we're gonna do is, we're jus' gonna saw off the top of your haid and root around inside until we find that dadgum tumor." :-) But we're as smart as anyone else. Sometimes we hide quick minds behind our slow drawls!

lol...it's like carlos mencia said...southerners over emphasize the "r", while new englanders dont emphasize it enough. So the southerners stole their "r's".
