I think it is a matter of record that most money donated to causes goes to
the management of the cause. That is to say that there are people who are
working for the fund raiser that are paid. I don't think enough of our money
actually is used the way we intended. Think twice before you donate. I
like to donate to local charity, like the food bank. I know it gets to the people
who need it, in my community.

I always make sure that the organizations that I donate to are registered with the proper authorities, and try to find out what % of a donation is used up in adminastrative costs and what actually goes to the cause intended. You can get this information for any reputable charity.

sure, that is why I like to find out how much (%) of the money donated goes to the actual cause, versus administrative costs. I'd prefer not to pay some head honcho a big salary, but have most of my funds go directly to the people in need.

thats why we do not donate to the American Red Cross...it was found that during 9/11, money that was donated for that cause was actually spent on Red Cross employees (not the volunteers who were at the site) and to their local causes.
When you go to donate, do it by check, and make the check payable to that cause...not the Red Cross/Salvation Army etc...

Of course. We all want to help people in need but none of us likes the idea of our hard work and generosity going into someones pocket and not benefiting the cause.

Yes. If it is a true non-profit organization, you can ask them for a copy of their tax return which will show you how much is going to salary vs real expenses.
