The 20th Century was a time of great change. It was also a time of great turmoil. World War I, World War II, The holocaust, The invention and use of atomic weapons, The Korean War, The Veitnam Conflict, Civil Rights Riots and Lynchings, The drug culture, The beginning of the Aids epedimic, The wholesale murder of millions of people around the globe in places like South Africa. The great music and movies of the 20th Century may well have been an artistic attempt to deal with a very unorganized and frightening time in our history. Many people theorize that great art grows out of turmoil. I hope and pray that the 21st Century be a time of greater peace. You are right to say we are not off to a great start. But even with the tragedy of this war on terror we find ourselves presently in, it does not compare even remotely to the carnage of WW I, or WWII. I pray it never catches up. We have an opportunity to build a better world. Freedom, equality, peace, no more hunger. Now that would be truly awesome! It didn't happen in the 20th century. Will we make it happen in this century? I hope.

Hi,

You know, everyone has always thought that they were living in the most exciting and yet scary times to ever happen.
Imagine being alive during the days of ancient Rome. The advances in medicine, culture and architecture were outstanding. I'm sure many people living then embraced their advancing culture convinced that this was the most important and amazing time to ever happen. At the same time many people decried development, war and changing religious ideals as sure signs that the end of man was near.

Imagine living in the times of Leonardo DaVinci, the excitement, the science, the innovations, the richness, beauty and a standard of living never before seen. Who then would not have sworn those times to be the triumph of man?

And now, with social advances and the advancement of science (in some areas of the world), who would not claim to be lucky to be alive today?

Who knows what our great, great grand children will think of their time?

I don't believe the 20th century is when everything awesome happened, I believe the entire history of humanity is when everything awesome happened, And even before humans imagine the surging spectacles of a seething, newly formed planet.

Do not ever be stuck in your time, enjoy it but rather try to relish the beauty that has been the human story! And try to even imagine the things to come!

If I had to pick the time that was most exciting to be alive during the history of humanity, I would have to say the very day humans learned to harness and create their own fire. That moment absolutley 100% changed, molded and thrust the march of humanity onward.

:)

By that standard, the 20th century was boring, too. This is only 2006. By 1906, the only interesting thing to happen was the Wright Brothers flight. Give it some time!

There are nevertheless a rather good variety of great mainstream bands in case you question me. The Black Keys, Wolfmother, The Mars Volta, CKY, Velvet Revolver, etc. (inquisitive approximately my section, of direction)
