Technically, no.

If he gave them to you, they're yours... legally. But on the reverse side, you may want assess certain things on a case-by-case basis. Don't give back a CD you really like or something, but if there is something that you wont even be able to enjoy for a while just because of the memory association with the breakup, then you might as well get rid of it now. That association can make it harder to get over a failed relationship. It's simply up to you whether you are going to give soemthing back or hock it for a little extra cash.

This also depends on the nature of the breakup. If it just seem 'right' to give something back, then give it back.

Only you can answer the question of whether or not you're going to give them back. But the legal answer is no, you dont have to give back any gifts.

Well think about it this way; every time you wear it or every time you look at it, you would know that your ex gave it to you and it would either bring back fond or horrible memories. Do you think you could really move on remembering him with things he gave you? I would say dump it and move on, especially if he is asking for it back. It makes the process so much easier.

The only thing you "should" return is if any of the items were family heirlooms or have sentimental value to the family.

The rest, have a yard sale

Only if you don't want a bunch of stuff he gave you laying around the house.

For me it's really up to you not to me or other people.
it's like if i gave you 100 dollars will you give it back?
maybe not it's something like that...

you dont really need to give it back if you dont want to.
if he asked for it you can give it back and if he want it back he dont really love you means (he gave you those gifts as a bribe)

no...if they were given to you, then they are gifts, and belong to you. but, if there are items that would have no meaning to you, that would have meaning to him, you should consider giving them back just to be cool about stuff. who ended the realtionship? i always felt that the person making the decision to go their own way should give back expensive items.

I think that if its things that are expensive THAT YOU DON'T WANT you should give them back or if you really want to do something with it you should give it away to charity, if its appropriate to give away.

Whatever you feel is necessary, you should do. If you want to keep the stuff, keep it. If you don't, don't.
