I had this friend who lives in NY and his soon to be ex wife is constantly harassing me. This woman is crazy. Anyway, I've never had an affair with this person...we were just friends. I had absolutely nothing to do with their marital issues. I've known this guy for almost 3 years and they had problems way before we even knew each other. Btw, I live in TX and they are in NY(they are also both in law enforcment) I have had to change my cell phone number 25+ times within a 2 year period. I get harassing emails. He knows about the harassment and said that he would take of it but never did. I told him that I will file a complaint against the both of them if it doesn't stop. He got angry because he doesn't want to get in trouble. He's not harassing me but he's not doing anything to stop it either which is a big reason why we are not friends anymore. Im to the point where I don't care if he gets in trouble. How do I handle this when Im in another state?

If you are NOT in law enforcement then I don't want an answer from you.

I would take the time to sit down and write a formal complaint at least against her, and make sure it went to her department. As for him, he is less of a man not to take some kind of action to keep this issue from blowing up.

Cops are humans too, and a small percent, about 1% are on the take, sleazy, or cheats. In a department with a few thousand officers, that 1% is a pretty good number.

I am sure the Captain or Chief will look at your complaint and act on it. Also, phone calls can be reported as harassment calls to the local phone company. If the phone company records show that yes, it is harassment, they can shut off the offenders phone, and not allow them to get phone service for a long time.

You have rights too, don't roll over and play dead, act and get something done, then go on with your life.

Document the facts in your question and contact the Internal Affairs Division of their department. If you get no response from them, document that fact and contact the New York State Attorney Generals Office. Keep all original documents and send copies. If necessary you may have to have them notarized for authenticity. If all of the above fails contact the Texas DPS Investigation Division or the State Attorney Generals office and ask for assistance.

Why are you no longer friends with him if she's harassing you?

File a report only against her....unless LE is similar to the military where the member gets told to "control your wife"

I know I'm not law enforcement - but something I had to ask - since that makes NO sense to me. (I *am* a military wife - so I know about that... :)

Get an attorney to advise you of your legal rights and what the repurcussions may be. Also, record any messages and keep all documentation, so you have a paper trail of all the things that have been happening. You need to make people aware that this is happening, so there will be a record of it.

Get a restraining order and prepare for what happens,

Law Enforcement is interesting when you have made someone angry, it's kinda like there is no law.
