AKC (our US registry) and the Canadian Kennel Club (Canadian equiv. to AKC) are both REPUTABLE registries. They ONLY register dogs that have parents that are registered, and their parents are registered and so on.
These other "fake" registries..ACC,Continential Kennel Club,APR, and so many more...will register ANY dog. You just pay the fee and send some pictures and have a friend say they "look pure". They were made so people who cannot register with AKC could register them with SOME registry and sell puppies for more. You get NOTHING for the fee, except your "registration certificate" , which you might as well use for toilet paper. The registry means nothing.
When buying a puppy, always make sure they are AKC or Canadian Kennel Club registered.....otherwise there is a chance it might not be pure!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You can show Canadisn Kennel Club registered dogs in the US, under certain rules, and AKC dogs can be shown in Canada with an Events Registration Number.
With the "fake" registries...there are NO SHOWS...they just care about the cash!!!!!
The UKC is a reputable registry, they do not register anything like the the "fakes". UKC has shows and a "standard" for each breed it registers.

AKC is the best, I'm not familiar with an American Canine Club. Are you talking about UKC the United Kennel Club? Also there is the CKC which is the Canadian Kennel Club. You never want to buy a dog registered with the UKC because they will register anything including mutts. They are simply out to help BYB's get a fast buck. Not that AKC is doing much better at this point but at least they only register purebreds.

The AKC and Canadian Kennel Club are reputable registries. The ACA is not.
Check out this site for information on registries. They have links to a number of scam registries and a few legitimate ones (such as the UKC and FCI).
http://www.nopuppymills.com/index.php?page=registries
Please keep in mind that although a registration with a scam registry can be an indication of a shady breeder, registration with the AKC does not guarantee the breeder ISN"T shady,
The AKC registers dogs based on lineage, not whether or not they are healthy or their parents have been checked for genetic health problems.
If you're getting a puppy, check out the national breed clubs (find them through www.akc.org) and read their breeder's code of ethics and the kinds of tests they say should be done on potential parents. This is the only way to be sure the proper tests are done. The ACA site will keep track of some pretty irrelevant health info and doesn't mention the major problems (like hips) you see in dogs.

Never heard of the ACC. The AKC & CKC (as long as you are talking Canadian and not Continental) are both top of the line groups. If you are looking for a dog to show that is the way to go. Beware of other registries, other than breed specific, as many of them will register darn near anything on the word of 2 "breeders" that this is a pure bred dog.
The biggest difference between AKC & CKC is one is American and the other Canadian. I would have to check for sure but I do believe that you can show AKC dogs in CKC shows and visa versa.

They are very different but, all want the same thing. The AKC is the oldest registry group in the USA. They are all designed to keep the breed standard up to par. AKC is just way pickier than the others refusing to recognize other clubs. They really all record the lineage of a breed and try to keep it pure. I think like any organization there is a lot of politics involved. I keep to the AkC because of their history. I have done well with them.
