No there is no mistake at all.... especially since the politicians have others reasons for building it.... like appeasing racist America ........ Who cares build the fence. The American public has clamored that they wish for this atrocity to be built. Then once all those billions of dollars are sunk into the building of this shameful wall......there will be no money for mass deportations...You see this is why the government is building this wall... We all know that it will not serve the purpose for which it is built....They didn't even build a levy that could protect New Orleans..... the illegals crossing are just as unpredictable.....Build the fence so they will be able to say later well we don't have the money now for deportations.......Also you will see discounts on ladders on the other side of the border. You just need a ladder to safely scale the wall without a scratch.

Mistake? No, they are doing what they want to do: waste taxpayers' money pretending they are solving a problem they define as a problem and suggest the "solution" that involves the most work and money and employees and benefits and equipment and supplies and expense accounts and on and on . . . So that we can have a wall that makes no more sense in the 21st century than Hadrian's Wall does now, or the Great Wall of China. Haven't they heard of airplanes? Helicopters? Tunnels? Climbing gear? Such a wall would have to be policed every foot of its length to be useful at all. Didn't we condemn the soviets for building the Berlin Wall, keeping people who have friends and relatives on both sides apart?

This is clearly no solution to the "problem" of illegal immigration from Mexico or through Mexico from further south. Like drug traffic, it will only increase the profit margin for those who take the risks.

How much more sensible it would be to ease the restrictions, make a green card easy to get, with the strict provision that it is a privilege, not a right. Abuse the privilege, and back you go, persona non grata.

The Only Mistake About It Is The Length

The Security Fence / Wall Should Be Built
Along The ENTIRE 1891 Miles Of The US / Mexico Border

Not Just 700 Miles

A fixed structure can be over come by going around, over or under. Hitler, when He invaded France, went around the Maginot line, which was impervious to attack. He showed the frogs that an end run works better than trying to get thru the front door.

We could take that money and hire more people to patrol the border, use high tech Remote aircraft like the Predator and move people into areas where the illegals are moving across.

Boots on the ground doing their job is better than any wall could hope to be.

hey...if you want to pay for some-one's education and "better life", go for it buddy...but i'll pass....i have no problem with anybody following the laws and becoming a LEGAL citizen and working and contributing like the rest of us american CITIZENS....but i'm definately not down for just giving out charity to people who are NOT CITIZENS and NOT contributing to our country or society.......do i think the wall is a mistake...i don't know if i'd call it a mistake, but i can tell you right now that it's not gonna do much for keeping illegals from entering our country ...the only way that wall is gonna do what it's supposed to is if they have armed guards stationed at regular intervals along the wall, and they shoot to kill

First its to be a fence not an wall.
And when someones elses "better life "is at the cost of an others better life its wrong.
Its very costly to the USA to have
all of the illegal aliens coming into
this country.They use services that
they do not pay for,schools,
hospitals,incarceration,
entitlements etc..
Most are paid in cash and so they do not pay any
income taxes, social security ,
Workman's comp.etc.The few that
do pay taxes and all the illegals that
pay sales tax do not off set those that
don't.Its very expensive "cheap labor"

Analysis of the latest Census data indicates that California's illegal immigrant population is costing the state's taxpayers more than $10.5 billion per year for education, medical care and incarceration. Even if the estimated tax contributions of illegal immigrant workers are subtracted, net outlays still amount to nearly $9 billion per year. The annual fiscal burden from those three areas of state expenditures amounts to about $1,183 per household headed by a native-born resident

The Berlin wall was built in a city to KEEP PEOPLE FROM ESCAPING Communistic oppression not to keep people out.of a country where the majority do not want them to come into illegally.
Don't try to confuse the issue by comparing apples to oranges.

I don't the wall if properly built and enforced could be a big deterrent to the illegals. It would also symbolize that Americans are fed up.
Coming for educational purposes?? At whose expense?? Why should my tax money go to educate citizens of another country who is NOT supposed to be in My country to begin with.....our schools are already Overcrowded and Underfunded....let their home country's educated them Americans are tired of paying for illegals.

Illegal immigrants who take low-paying jobs don't pay enough in taxes, if they pay at all, to reimburse taxpayers the $5,000-plus annually it takes to educate each of their children

The total K-12 school expenditure for illegal immigrants costs the states $7.4 billion annually-- enough to buy a computer for every junior high student nationwide.

An immigrant who comes here legally is entitled to get an education and to work on getting a better life.
An immigrant who comes here illegally should be sent right back, do not pass go, do not collect $200, just go and be done with it.

The backlash has started, pay close attention to the last paragraph:

well I do believe SOMETHING has to be done, but an actual wall just symbolizes that the U.S.A. wants to separate itself from the rest of the world. Its just a band aid solution, honestly. People can cross oceans to get into the country so a wall certainly won't stop them.

As far as them comming for a better life, some americans seem to want to be the ONLY ones with a better life.

Anti-ladder lobbyists obviously oppose such walls, for obvious reasons.

But, for a more serious answer, I don't know who would think it's a bad thing; it seems like it'd encourage more people to immigrate legally rather than illegally and not be a burden everyone else who's here legally and paying for all the nice things that are here.
