I live in Kentucky, and my mother is a real coal-miner's daughter from the hills of Kentucky. Banana pudding is one of my very favorite things. Here's how mom makes it:
1 box of Vanilla Wafers
1 lg. or 2 sm. packages of banana flavored pudding,-- slow cook pudding, NOT INSTANT! (some people don't like banana flavored, but I do. If you don't, either substitute vanilla pudding or mix 1 box vanilla, 1 box banana)
2-4 good, ripe bananas--deep yellow, fully ripe
3 egg whites
1/4 cup sugar (or slightly less, to taste)
Layer a 1 1/2 qt. baking dish with vanilla wafers, covering the bottom and sides. Top generously with banana slices, about 1/4-1/2" thick.
Cook pudding according to package directions until thick & hot.
Pour half the pudding over the cookies and bananas.
Add another layer of vanilla wafers and banana slices.
Cover with the rest of the pudding.
Make a meringue topping:
Beat 3 room temperature egg whites on high speed in a glass or metal bowl till almost stiff. (Don't use a plastic bowl) Slowly beat in small amounts of sugar until stiff peaks form.
Spread the meringue over the top of the pudding and place under the oven broiler for 5-8 mins till meringue is golden brown.
Enjoy it warm, the way I like it, or chill in refrigerator.
Variations:
If you like it 'jucier', add more pudding.
For an original southern recipe, they also add those egg yolks to the pudding mix--talk about RICH. You can certainly make it that way, and it's excellent, but it's not necessary.
Many cooks also advocate dipping the banana slices in lemon juice to prevent browning, but if you eat it soon, there's no need to do that. Up to you.
Obviously, in her farm days, they also made the pudding from scratch. But, Mom grew up & moved to the city... ;-)
Happy cooking!

Banana Pudding
3/4 cup sugar
3 eggs, separated
2 tablespoons flour
Dash salt
2 cups milk
1 teaspoon vanilla
Vanilla cookies (recommended: Nilla Wafers)
4 bananas
1/4 teaspoon cream of tartar
Prepare a double boiler. Mix together 1/2 cup sugar, egg yolks, flour and salt. Add milk and mix again. Heat on stove until the custard sticks to the sides of pan, approximately 20 minutes. Add vanilla after mixture has thickened. Let cool.
To assemble: Put few drops of pudding in the bottom of a 2-quart dish and spread around. Layer Nilla Wafers and cut up 2 bananas, add 1/2 of custard, repeat layer and arrange wafers around the sides.
In a separate bowl beat egg whites with 1/4 cup sugar and cream of tartar until it forms stiff peaks, spread on pudding and bake in a preheated 425 degree F oven for 4 minutes, just brown on top.
Serve warm or cold.

Your ingredients seem to sweet. Condenses milk, marshmallow, pudding..... I don't feel the pudding will break down with only a few minutes under the broiler. I use bananas, vanilla wafers, vanilla pudding, fresh whipped cream. Although, I do like your idea of cream cheese in the pudding. Good luck!

One grandma from alabama makes cold, and the grandma from georgia makes hot. Your choice but they are both southern.
Hot banana pudding
1 cup sugar
1/3 cup cornstarch
3/4 tsp salt
3 cups of milk
3 eggs separated
1 1/2 tsp vanilla
24 vanilla wafers
3 large ripe bananas, sliced into discs
Mix 2/3 cup sugar, cornstarch, and salt. Add milk gradually. Cook over low heat, stirring constantly until mixture thickens. Add small amount of hot mixture to egg yolks stirring constantly. Pour egg yolk mixture back into hot mixture. Return to heat and cook 2 minutes. Add vanilla. Arrange alternate layers of wafers, banana slices, and pudding, ending in pudding. Beat egg whites until soft peaks form. Gradually add remaining 1/3 cup sugar and beat until meringue stands in firm peaks. Spread over pudding. Bake in 350 degree oven for 15 minutes.
Cold Banana Pudding
Vanilla wafers
ripe bananas
1 small tub cool whip
1 package vanilla instant pudding
Mix the pudding as directed on package and set aside or in refrigerator. Layer a pan with vanilla wafers. Slice bananas and layer over vanilla wafers. Fold 1/2 container of cool whip into the pudding mixture and spread 1/2 of it over the bananas. Place another layer of wafers and bananas. Spread the remaining pudding mixture over the bananas. Spread the rest of the cool whip on top. Refrigerate and serve.
