Gastroscopy is an examination of the inside of the gullet, stomach and duodenum. It is performed by using a thin, flexible fibre-optic instrument that is passed through the mouth and allows the doctor to see whether there is any damage to the lining of the oesophagus (gullet) or stomach, and whether there are any ulcers in the stomach or duodenum.
Do you mean scan (ultra sound scan/ CT scan) of the abdomen

I had delayed gastric emptying, and was throwing up right after I ate all the time. I had an endoscopy but there was nothing, so the dr. did an x-ray on my stomach for about 2 hrs. while I lay on the table after eating oatmeal they injected dye into. The food took more than twice as long as the average person to digest because they saw it on the scan. It was causing me to feel full very quickly and throw up if I continued eating.
Just an idea I thought you might consider, since gastroparesis isnt a very well-known disorder to people who've never had it.

I have just had a CT scan of my abdomen. They were looking for something that was causing my colon to become blocked. Generally, they will do tests in endoscopy first to see if you have an ulcer or polyps etc and then they will do a more detailed exploration of the abdomen looking for things that might not be visible because they are difficult to get a camera to. So my answer would be that they are looking for the cause to a malfunction of your digestive system which may have resulted in either blood in stools, or unexplicable abdominal pain and/or vomitting.

If you're pregnant, there is the possibly of you having a tumor, or if the Drs just need to see what's in there. Scans are used for lots of things other than just pregnancy - quite often if breast cancer is suspected a scan (ultrasound) is done.

To see if there is anything that is unusual. It's just for health reasons, your stomach is a part of your body like your leg or your brain. I'm sure you've had CAT scans and ultrasounds on your leg when they were hurt.

With the ease of endoscopy directly viewing the stomach lining, I have no idea why a scan would be done. Nonsense

Well there are a lot of possibilites. Generally it's because the doctor suspects there maybe a problem, maybe a tumor or something like that. Without knowing the circumstances it's impossible to say for sure.
